Forgive me - I would love to get the interpretation from military Ags here...... but this sound like an order to activate, in part, some of the reserves to active duty -- specifically in relation to Europe/Atlantic operations.

What is going on here?

I'd guess we are fresh out of active duty personnel to rotate through due to not meeting recruiting goals.

If you are a white, straight, masculine male, why would you join? They hate your guts.

I don't think we're going to start WW3 with an additional "not more than 3,000" personnel at any one time.

I would guess it's more indicative of general attrition in the post Iraq/Afghanistan period and/or the need for certain specific specializations that they don't have sufficient numbers of in the active duty rosters. But that is a WAG.

Someone in the press should ask Biden. They won't, but they should.

"The decline in the percentage of Americans eligible to serve in the military has become accompanied by a declining interest in service. Just 9 percent of Americans of service age say they want to serve, down from 23 percent a few years ago.Jun 16, 2023"

Escalation is escalation.

I'm old enough to remember when Xiden said sending tanks, vehicles, and planes to Kiev was escalation that was too dangerous.

Then they sent tanks, vehicles, and planes.

I'm also old enough to remember when Xiden warned Russia that cluster bombs were not to be used for human rights reasons.

Now we are sending cluster bombs.

We have only sent advisors and trainers up until this point.

Now we are activating reserves for additional war posturing.

What's next?

Also pulling from the IRR?

How often does that happen.

Seems a little bit out of place.

Possibly relieving an active duty unit. Reserves are support, not combat arms. They're not an invasion force. Especially with only one brigade sized element of 3000 Soldiers.

Who would want to join under this leadership? Morale is in the ****ter because of Biden's policies. It's a good thing we have great toys because we'd be ****ed without them.

This is what happens when too many of the current active duty are busy getting their d's and t's cut off.

It means recruitment and re-enlistment numbers are in the dumper, because sane people don't want to be part of the pride parade that the dims have turned the military into.

OMG, I think they're calling up the troops to get prepared for a huge parade. It's gonna be fabulous! .

Not true. Marine reserve units contributed greatly in the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and beyond. They are supplemental forces to the active units.

Quote:

Marine Corps Reserve forces are one of the great success stories of the war. They showed that they are skilled fighters who could perform as advertisedmuster, train, deploy, and fightand do it, not as second-stringers who might suffice in an emergency but as highly motivated, highly competent Marines.

Reserve combat units fought on the frontlines from the first minute of the war to the last. Logistics units provided critical support, for example, by building the longest bridge and establishing the largest fuel farm in Marine Corps history. After major combat operations ended, Reserve infantry and light armored reconnaissance battalions governed entire provinces on their own. Active duty commanders greatly appreciated reservists' capabilities and enthusiasm, an appreciation that began at the highest levels.

The WH press release mentions "Operation Atlantic Resolve."

In other words, WWIII in the Ukraine. Seriously.

I am IRR and never thought anything could activate my old buttocks. (I haven't received any notice... yet).

More on the mobilization, where DoD admits the Ukraine war is where "fighting is severe."

Quote:

"This [executive order] reaffirms the unwavering support and commitment to defend NATO's eastern flank in the wake of Russia's illegal and unprovoked war on Ukraine," Sims said.
...
Providing a current assessment of the fighting in Ukraine, Sims said the fighting is severe.

I guess I just assumed it was Army Reserves since no branch was named. Army Reserves doesn't have combat arms.

3000 still doesn't seem like much
