Are we at the cusp of a second conservative resurgence in the SBC?

This is completely tied to politics because the people inside the SBC that defended the egalitarianism and incremental liberalism of Warren were/are almost always either admitted liberals or were acquiescent towards the push towards more acceptance of abortion, homosexuality, and women pastoral leadership.

I agree with SBC here based on my understanding of scripture and I'm not a Baptist.

Is this really political though?

yes. The injection of modern politics into the SBC has caused much damage to the denomination.

I'm a confessional Lutheran, and I've been following this through some Issues, Etc. podcasts.

IMO, this does belong in the politics forum because the issues at the heart of this are the political zeitgeist that have infiltrated Saddleback and caused Rick Warren to twist scripture in order to justify his positions, and now they want to spread it to the SBC as a whole.

Thank God for Al Mohler and the leadership of his seminary for fighting the good fight within the SBC and not allowing unbiblical doctrine to take root and fester....and eventually destroy.

Liberalism is a cancer, and it seeks to destroy everything by first infiltrating the institutions, and then playing the long game to slowly eat away at its foundation.

Now, the SBC still needs to get right with their view of what Baptism is and what it does, but THAT discussion does belong in R&P forum and not here.

Soon you'll be able to fit all the southern baptists into one church, and I doubt you will need to worry about women attending.

Maybe so. Lots of people are rejecting the Bible for sure.

Just like many other denominations. Even the Catholic church to some degree.

Progressivism is a cancer and it does nothing but destroy.

The Church will always survive. Denominations, not so much. But the Church will survive.

Clearly only the kind where men lead.

It's always amusing how the secularists believe they don't have their own forms of religions they practice.

The devil always finds a way in. Make no mistake this is satan trying to weaken the church. One denomination at a time. Look no further than what has happened to the methodists.

Very interesting. We just left our church about a month ago over this very issue. Our pastor's wife was named "Executive Pastor" with full approval of the elders.

No matter the denomination the attacks are happening to all of them by the left. Liberals have infiltrated all denominations.
Destruction of the conservative church is an important component that should never be overlooked.

Meanwhile most conservative Christians have their heads in the sand!

Not just the United Methodists, but most of the "Seven Sisters" mainline protestants. ELCA is so warped and demented now they aren't even Christian, much less Lutheran. Same with the liberal Presbyterian and Episcopalean church bodies. The United Church of Christ has always been wacked out liberal.

These church bodies have truly become Satan's playground.

Yes, that has.

Also, they let guys like CJ Mahaney still be in major leadership positions despite covering up sex abuse.

I recall that the membership of SBC churches votes to install a pastor. Am I right about that and if so, did this not get put to a membership vote?

Also, what is an elder? Do you mean deacons?

I served as a Deacon in 3 churches of Christ, and these are the requirements for Elders (leaders of the church) and Deacons (Servants of the Church)

Titus 1:5-9 English Standard Version

Qualifications for Elders (Men Only)
5 This is why I left you in Crete so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

1 Timothy 3 English Standard Version

Qualifications for Deacons (Men Only)
8 Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, and not greedy for dishonest gain. 9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Their wives likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

I remember some smoke about Dr Voddie Baucham being possibly nominated as SBC president. Now that woulda been fun with Warren still in the mix. Voddie would've absolutely cleaned house in the SBC real quick.

Actually, both passages are referring to the office of the pastor (minister, priest, etc.) I had a Lutheran pastor correct me on this when I told him I didn't feel qualified to be an elder in our church.

Not an SBC church. It was non-denominational evangelical. And yes, elders = SBC deacons. +/-.

This is why I left our SBC affiliated church in MN.

Well done brother.

It's a Biblical reason to leave.
