Search called off for Louisiana high school graduate who fell overboard from a boat in the Bahamas, Coast Guard says

Search efforts for a 18-year-old Louisiana high school graduate who fell overboard a boat in the Bahamas this week have been suspended, the US Coast Guard said Friday, citing the Bahamian military.

Cameron Robbins was on a senior trip, celebrating his graduation from University High Lab School in Baton Rouge, when he fell off the boat Wednesday evening, a spokeswoman for Louisiana State University told CNN.

Baton Rouge teen missing after going overboard in Bahamas, officials say

NASSAU, Bahamas (WAFB) - The U.S. Coast Guard has called off the search on Friday night after a former U-High baseball player went overboard while on a graduation boating excursion Wednesday evening, May 24, in the Bahamas.

Witnesses said it appears Cameron Robbins, 18, who graduated from University Laboratory School (U-High) in Baton Rouge just days ago, was acting on a dare when he jumped overboard. Video taken immediately afterwards shows Robbins splashing in the water, a few feet from the boat. He then disappeared, witnesses said.

Notice the difference in how this gets reported? ever ask yourself why is that?

And of course......Darwin doing what he does.

So what is the reason it was reported that way? More clicks?

IDK. I just find it odd that mainstream media all use "fell" off the boat instead of saying he jumped off the boat.

Was he drunk/high? At least swim to the ring. It will help you float and make you more visible.

Because a fresh high school graduate "falling" overboard from a cruise ship garners more clicks than a dumbass jumping off a boat on a dare.

"Man bites dog" has been a journalistic aphorism since the dawn of print media.

I had to keep a drunk buddy from jumping off our cruise ship right after we finished high school. Pissed me the hell off. Dumb mother****er wouldn't stop trying to climb onto the rail. Finally another classmate showed up and we got him back down to our rooms. ****.

Just about every teen male does stupid, death defying sh** at some point which really scares me having 4 incl a 18 year old. Fortunately most of us lived to tell about it. But not a good look to make fun of this. There is a family out there hurting and I for one am praying for their loss and that I don't ever have to experience something like this.

As in, likely diced up by the prop? I am assuming that was right where he was heading right?

I feel like back in the day, every living male above the age of 10 would know not to do this, and why you shouldn't. At the very least, a large craft is going to create currents you simply might not be able to defy. Not nowadays, it seems like most 30 year olds don't have the sense of a 14 year old in 1960.

Lots of dumb ways to die.

Apparently common sense isn't a requirement for High School graduation in Louisiana.

Was this a full size ship? It was described as a sunset cruise. Usually those are much smaller boats.

I'd think "affluent white kid jumping off cruise ship" would be plenty of hits. It draws more attention than an accident.

There's a pretty extensive thread about this over on TigerDroppings (obviously) and some posters have slowed down and analyzed the video and claim to see a shark in the water which they speculate is what caused him to swim away from the life ring.

Website says 500 tons. It's a big boat. He probably got sucked under the wake and was drowned in thirty seconds.

Dude YOLOed a little too hard.

Edit…. Rewatched the video. Who knows if the wake got him. Sucks, not gonna lose a lot of sleep on this. Talk to your kids about not getting plastered and doing stupid *****

Something definitely in the water at the 3-4 second mark between kid and buoy.

If you scroll in the video, back and forth around 3 seconds, there is definitely something there. Shark or Dolphin.

Not my image, from TigerDroppings, not sure if he is the one screaming or not, too much party noise.

Just "as a dare".
So he was not pushed, he did not fall accidentally. No foul play.

He jumped on his own.

So maybe this is "survival of the fittest"? Maybe this kid was so intellectually deficient that his future children may have been compromised? Sad for the parents and family but nature is ruthless. Survival is not easy.

That just looks like the wake of the boat breaking.

Been on multiple open ocean night time transits, just a break.

I agree it looks sharky on first glance though.

After re-watching, Im 99% sure that's the life buoy being thrown in the water and the rope attached to it being pulled. If that WAS a shark, every kid on that boat would have seen it much better than what is visible in that video, and would have been screaming "shark!!"
