Desantis has no chance and should just send his supporters Trump's way. Vivek, though I'm a huge fan, should do the same sadly.

No, just being flooded by MAGA who don't actually want to have a discussion and hope the thread will die if they flood it with 50-100 posts a day and obfuscate any actual discussion about the candidates.

Everyone needs to stop responding to them.
Yes the Trump vs DeSantis should just be a safe space thread for team DeSantis. Just full of rainbows, butterflies and DeSantis Warroom tweets. Nothing says conservative quite like censoring other perspectives.

Exactly…well stated…it's okay to love what DeSantis says and stands for and still have a realistic outlook on things…

For months some on this thread have thrown "trumper" and "cult" at anyone who comes on her to have an honest discussion about this primary race instead of just promoting DeSantis blindly with no grounding in reality…

Remember, Trump and his acolytes have never lost; it is always stolen, which will be their mantra in 2024 when Trump loses by a margin so big that fraud wasn't even necessary.

Who is being censored? If someone disagrees with you that is censorship? It seems like the Trump folks are the ones saying that we need to just quit and support Trump before a single vote has been cast. In fact we shouldn't even have debates. No, we must now over a year away from the GE put ALL of our support behind Trump no matter what he says or does and we must ignore all of his daily mistakes. Otherwise we are "censoring" Trump supporters?

The logic is just astounding. Look, if Trump is SO awesome and he is going to win SO huge then why do you care?

I just wish that the Trump supporters would actually make real arguments as to why Trump is going to be a better President than DeSantis instead of pushing polls and saying we need to have DeSantis drop out, have no debates, and preferably start giving our money to Trump for his legal bills.

They can't make an argument because there is no argument for Trump, other than some version of "he deserves it" "the race is over get behind him" "Biden sucks worse" etc. There's no logical reason to support a candidate who has been behind three consecutive nationwide underperformances, and who if by some insane miracle actually gets elected will have zero allies in DC and will basically get nothing done since no one will work with him because he's an arrogant jackass.

In the meantime there's an accomplished actual conservative with actual skins on the wall who has basically wiped the left out of Florida and always trumpers don't care because he doesn't tweet unhinged rants like a drunken moron. One of the more bizarre things in politics in a long time.

Did you read the post i replied to or did you see "texagbeliever" and think I must take the opposite of this guy.

Here is a fun question for you Aggie93: Is Trump a considerable better Presidential option than Biden?

I believe your answer is yes based on your previous replies. Yet many of your DeSantis crew mates have convinced themselves that that answer is no. Do you not find that ridiculous? Do you not think that is worth engaging on? You certainly believe differently yet you don't comment against. Why is that?

What exactly is your goal here? I get you have this need to goaltend to the extreme, but you have already dropped any semblance of logical coherence in your argument, now you need A93 to comment on other posters? You asked for reasons why anyone would choose not to vote for Trump, and you got them. Move on, or have you been also designated as the Trump whip?

Why would conservatives NOT vote for Trump? Because THIS is the kind of crap he drives people to do.

Trump and DeSantis have a policy overlap of over 90+%. Biden and DeSantis have a policy overlap of likely 15%. 4 years of Trump would setup a better state for DeSantis in 2028 then 4 years of Biden. So in 2028 if you vote for Trump in 2024 conservative policies are better off. It is utter madness to think otherwise.

Also ironic that Trump's 3 SC nominees all voted to overturn Roe v Wade which wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been elected president. Clearly making his term better for pro-Life then Biden's. Yet you nitpick that because Trump is willing to give up some ground he is instantly equal to Biden. Just illogical.

Also the point of allowing Aggie93 is to point out the glaring contradiction. I certainly setup with the expectation that Aggie93 will respond based on what he has posted. It would be in contradiction to you.

There is nothing wrong with being pro-DeSantis or even critical of Trump policy. Being overly dramatic about it or all or nothing is however foolish. That is what I intend to highlight. Anyone who isn't all-in like FireAg is a Trumpster.

What big cases did Trump's picks get wrong?

Federal vax mandate - Kavanaugh and ACB vote with the liberal bloc to uphold it

Civil Rights Act - Gorsuch votes with the 4 liberals to add gender identity

Remain in Mexico policy - Kavanaugh voted with the liberal bloc again against upholding it.

Title 42 - Gorsuch voted against keeping it in place

Sessions v. Dimaya - Gorsuch voted to invalidate a provision of federal law that requires the mandatory deportation of immigrants who have been convicted of some violent crimes.

Alabama Congressional map - Kavanaugh again votes with the liberals.

Oh, Texas v Pennsylvania - none of the 3 wanted to hear the case only Alito and Thomas.

I'll put it in smaller words then. It's about being an incompetent administrator. So much so, that the trade-offs we have for him NOT being conservative aren't worth it, and he is a detriment to the office, and we will be in a worse place with him in it. Trump is Fredo.

That doesn't make him as bad as Biden, but voting for him has consequences for every other election that comes after. There is a lesson to be learned, and that is don't nominate middle fingers as candidates, it screws us all. A non-vote for president is saying no to both, because neither of them should be in the position they are in.

Some fun context to counter this. G. W. Bush, Jeb Bush (if Trump hadn't won 2016 primary this was the likely guy), McCain and Romney in recent memory were all the competent non-middle finger administrator candidates brought to you by the republican party. All of them hurt conservatism far more than Trump did. Unless you suffer from TDS...

Why should any DeSantis supporter vote for Trump, or even support him in anyway, when this is what MAGA thinks of us.

who is that? Why do I care what he has to say? These are basic questions to ask oneself when on twitter. Or just not be on twitter like a sane person but that is too hard.

Explain how any of those 4 hurt conservativism more than the guy who has been the mastermind behind multiple giant GOP electoral failures in the last 6 years.

Off the top of my head, Trump, by supporting absolute clowns in primaries like Oz and Lake, or Trumpism lost the following winnable races in 2022 alone:

AZ Governor
PA Senate
GA Senate
WA-3
MI-3 (redistricted but the MAGA candidate lost by 13 points)

Plus left leaning states like NH, PA, MA and Maryland that had no problem electing Republican governors before the state parties were dumb enough to nominate a bunch of far right idiots.

Trump has turned off a massive population of moderate Republicans and they won't be coming back until he's gone. To his credit, in 2016 he also brought a population of low education white people in three important states, but he motivates the left to show up like no other candidate in history.

I am with FireAg on this, and i will be voting for DeSantis in the primaries, and I expect to vote for Trump in the General.

Looking at Vegas betting odds online, DeSantis is at +700, which is around 12.5% chance and maybe a little less. Trump is around -400, which is around an 80% chance and maybe a little less of winning the Republican nomination.

So DeSantis has a chance yes, and if I had a 12% chance of winning the republican nomination, I would stay in too. But it is unlikely, and 4 out of 5 times Trump will win the nomination.

What I wouldn't do is spew vitriol over and disparage the likely republican nominee. Many on this board detest Trump, but the alternative which is an incapacitated Biden.

If the Republican party embraces Trump, then it has embraced the Democrat party platform of the mid to late 90's. I didn't vote for it then, and I sure as hell am not voting for it now, because it is still the same problem it was then. I need more than "not Joe Biden" to justify voting for someone, because that isn't what the ballot is.

Look on your ballot when it's time to vote. It's doesn't have a "Not Joe Biden" slot. You are voting FOR someone. You can justify it in your mind if you need to, but I can't. Trump is part of the problem and him not running as a Dem doesn't make that go away.
Ah the elitism that allows you to not vote for the least bad option because you have a nice house in a nice neighborhood that is largely insulated from all the problems. Congrats to you. You are hugely selfish and have a huge ego (ironic because this is your big gripe with Trump). The fact you have said this same thing now 5+ times on Texags goes to show you want EVERYONE to know how righteous you are.

Pointing out trumpism is a cancer to the party and the cause of the GOP's underperformance in the last three elections is not elitism, it's common sense. Once he loses to Biden again and likely also causes the dems to take both the house and senate hopefully people will finally see this and we can all move on.

He is pointing out how he won't vote for Trump. And sure he provides his justification but it isn't his main point.

If i said i will either cut off your leg or punch you in the stomach and you said well I'm not going to vote because getting punched in the stomach is bad so I'm indifferent than that is stupid. It is objectively beyond all measure that Trump is better than Biden for the poster and especially for most Americans. There is not arguing against that.

This is your opinion and apparently not one shared by more than half of the country, and you have no idea if he's better than Biden for that poster or if who is president has any material impact on his daily life at all. Much like FireAg, Trumpers definitely seem to be confused by this whole fact vs opinion thing.
You can't be serious. You think Biden's term has been better for you, and Americans than Trump's? If you believe that then just wow. That is telling.

Is that what I said? Or, did I say you have no idea if that poster's life was better, worse or basically unchanged by whichever of those two morons are in office?

Also, to the point of this thread - if you think Biden is a giant disaster then nominating the person who already lost to him once (when there's a great option staring you in the face) is a pretty terrible idea.
I can tell you for a fact if Biden nominated the 3 supreme court justices instead of Trump then the poster's life would be way worse. Trump didn't have the Afghanistan disaster. Trump didn't push for federal vaccine mandates. Trump didn't blank fund Ukraine war. Trump didn't do nothing about the Southern border. All of this while every Trump pro conservative policy was instantly challenged by some super liberal district court that delayed and thwarted progress.

As to your second point, I don't take a few history data points and project to know the future perfectly.
a) Trump was essentially out of office when the vaccine started hitting the shelves en masse. However, he takes YUGE pride in letting EVERYONE know that HE was the one that got everyone the vaccines...so it's not like he wouldn't push the **** out of them.

b) Trump couldn't fund the Ukraine war because it didn't start until he was out of office for 2 years. HOWEVER...Trump DID fund Ukraine and give them weapons while he was POTUS and they had not been invaded. Why should I assume he would not give them weapons funding and weapons AFTER they were invaded?

Well then step up to the table and offer up all the major negative policies that clearly make his presidency on par with Biden's term. I don't think you can do it.

Look I'm not, and neither is FireAg, telling you to vote for Trump over DeSantis. I'm telling you prepare yourself for Trump winning the primary because that is logical. And one thing to prepare yourself for that is to give up this all or nothing loyalty you have for DeSantis which causes you to make these indefensible positions that you are net neutral to Trump vs Biden term.
His stated policies are absolutely better than Bidens. That has never been my beef with him. My problem is actual performance and how his demand for loyalty over performance and principles turned what should have been a good presidency into an unmitigated disaster in a short amount of time. I have no interest in the Republican party self destructing over someone who not only is willing to codify abortion up to 4-5 months into federal law and is willing to spend us into oblivion, but who has shown he is uniquely unfit for the position he is trying to fill. It's not about only being willing to vote for DS, it's Trump being the candidate that is so bad, he's convinced me to not vote for him again.
The bold part is not real. BUT let's assume it is real. Your choice is to vote for the guy that would codify abortion up to 4-5 months versus the guy who would vote to codify abortion up to and right after birth. How is that logical to you? You aren't electing a king you are electing a 4 year leader. Guess what in 2028 you can vote for candidates that can then take firmer stands against abortion. The issue is therefore just tabled four years.

You don't have to right the ship on EVERY issue on day one. You do have to start steering the ship back on course though. That is what Trump offers. But because he isn't gold platinum certified conservative you say nah i'd rather hit the iceburg. Bring it on.
Trump said that 15 weeks is a reasonable time to allow abortion if he were negotiating.

15 weeks is ~4 months...

Here is Trump "really" saying that abortion up until 5 months is the standard.

Oof. This thread is on life support.

Cold dog crap is better than Biden and I have said many times I will vote for Trump or any Republican over Biden. Trump won't say that though, he won't commit to voting for anyone but himself and refused to sign or agree to that pledge. It isn't my responsibility to convince DeSantis supporters to vote for Trump. I'm telling you that the people who didn't vote for Trump last time won't vote for him again and some others as well. I'm not your problem. Trump decided to try to have the most popular Republican in Georgia primaried and said his Dem opponent was better. He has set fire to the McCain voters in AZ. I have no clue how he fixes that and that is why he will lose.

Trump needs to figure out that problem but I can promise you insulting people who don't like him harder isn't a good idea. They are at the point they would rather burn it all down and purge the Party rather than vote Trump. Trump supporters better figure out how to mend that bridge. My little vote in Texas in the General is safe though in the General for Trump if he is the nominee. DeSantis doesn't have this problem because he hasn't gone out of his way to insult them, GA and AZ are easy W's for him and he gets to focus on the real battleground states.

I don't want the Dems to win but Trump will make that happen, it's going to be a freaking wipeout when they replace Biden as well.

God, Trump has become just a rambling, bumbling old fool. A "magnificent, beautiful" old fool. A vote for him in the Primary equals a vote for the Dem candidate in the General, no two ways about it.

Yep, and the always Trumpers will never touch stuff like this with a 10 foot poll. I'd be ashamed to be supporting this type of person in the primary when there are much better options, not to mention how damaging stuff like this will be in the general election. But I guess that would take them having any kind of self awareness.

"Trump and DeSantis have a policy overlap of over 90+%."

so the Always Trump team now agree that we can get the exact same policies -

but with someone 37 years younger; without 3 wives; 2 impeachments; and 91 felony indictments.

welcome to Team DeSantis!
