That would solve 3/4 of the problems.

It's like one chapter in Home EC. Im talking about an actual financial literacy course that teaches you basic money theory all the way to investing in stocks, bonds, and real estate.

It's wild how you have a problem with what I said but not with the person who said kids should go to work camps if they fail out or have discipline issues.

Its not hard at all when they are banned. You see one and they go to ISS for a few days. It doesn't take long and they get the routine. Then its one less thing to manage. Banning cellphones won't solve the problem. It will just make it more difficult for teachers to manage because kids will hide them. Teachers that can't manage cell phones can't manage other behaviors as well.

It sounds like the B2 level would be more than sufficient for what you want.
I hope you also want native English speakers to become equally proficient in a foreign language.

I never said they didn't try. English proficiency should be a graduation requirement.

I see this from two perspectives. One as a teacher who has had kids in a physics class that could not pass algebra one. Secondly as a dad with a daughter who has severe Dyslexia. A daughter who could not functionally read until 5th grade. A Daughter that now as a Sophomore in High School is 2nd in her class. A daughter who has busted her ass to overcome a lot. But you in would have relegated her to..... where? because she was not a "sled dog"Owlagdad said:
The problem with schools as rest of America is that nobody's yes means yes and nobody's no means no. Everything is in gray area, everything is maybe, until the bosses figure out what's best for them and not lose their job. Kids have learning disability? Good, put him in special ed, let him learn there. Parents should accept the "no" your kid can't be in same classes as the sled dogs. Parents raise hell, so special ed kid is put in regular class. Kid can't learn, teacher has to modify, sled dogs slow down. Same with language barriers. Learn the language, smart kids go with sled dogs. Otherwise stay in modified classes.
Another thought - do any of you believe in the gene pool? Would kids of low IQ parents have low IQ kids?
Who is doing all the breeding these days?
Not talking poor kids - they can and do overcome. But are all kids equal from birth? Does the slogan "all kids can learn" mean all kids can learn Calculus, or all kids can learn what they are capable of learning?
You do realize there are only so many days in the year and most kids won't pay attention to that lesson, right? Most aren't mature enough to care about that.91Challenger said:Definitely Not A Cop said:Ol_Ag_02 said:

And definitely include the history of money and what a fiat currency is.
Everyone should be educated on the make-believe nature of the federal reserve Ned the US dollar.
That alone would scare the **** out if everyone and hopefully wake up our country.
I would say good luck getting elected, but since you are emperor, you can just kill anyone that cries about losing their day care.coconutED said:

Now I do agree with different learning paths. Not every kid should be in physics or calculus, hell not every kid should be forced to take algebra. After 8th grade there should be two paths, academic and trade. Kids that are nothing but trouble should be removed and not hurt others chances, BUT there are greys. Being sanctimonious will not help. Because while your Johnnie or Sally was breezing through those easy readers my daughter was fighting, crying, and never giving up. You (and probably 3/4 of the people here) would not have thought she deserved an education.

Phones aren't an issue in my classroom. And we use them in my classroom quite often for educational purposes.
And you can't send a kid to ISS for a phone.

I'm Puerto Rican and I assure you, there is an island of over 3 Million Americans who are doing just fine without speaking much English and in some cases, none at all.
Bad Bunny can't speak English worth a damn and he's selling out stadiums charging hundreds of dollars per ticket. I paid $250/seat to see him at Minute Maid Park in September 2022. That was the loudest concert or event of any kind I've ever been to. We're talking Beatles on Ed Sullivan levels of screaming.
And if selling out stadiums isn't enough, Bad Bunny is also dating Kendall Jenner. Player.
I currently live in Los Angeles and my dentist is in Koreatown. I assure you that there is an entire culture of Koreans in LA who are doing just fine reading Hangul.
Same goes for Chinese in Arcadia, Armenians in Glendale and Hebrew speakers between La Brea and Fairfax.
Now if you want more opportunities, yeah, it is definitely in your best interest to learn English but it is by no means a requirement nor should it be. Otherwise the Framers would have written it into the Constitution.
Here's a little something from my home island for you to enjoy.
(looks like they could have filmed this in my hometown)
Well yeah but, I think they should all aspire to be Roberto Clemente first.NonReg85 said:HollywoodBQ said:I'm going to let you in on a little secret.NonReg85 said:HollywoodBQ said:You meant this as a joke, right?dead said:

This kind of thinking results in homelessness and welfare....another thing for which your little corner of the world is famous. I do lots of business in PR and, even though I know Spanish, I never need to speak it. Then again. I'm not dealing with poor people. But, that's my whole point, we should make Americsn kids learn English to maximize their shot at prosperity.
I never made any blanket claims that success is impossible without knowing English but your response seems to indicate that you think that's what I meant.
But. By all means, you are entitled yo your opinion that we should not expect too much from ESl kids. They should just aspire to be Bad Bumny.
Including government football!!!coconutED said:
