I have a moral compass. I also believe in being prepared and responsible. You also need much better insurance. You could find better plans on the obamacare exchange.

You have no idea of my details or situation. You don't know about the procedures that my family has gone through other than the top level her. Same thing for the girl who was shot.

I can say that a guy called 'Tesla ag' reprimanding people for spending money on their daughters cheerleading reeks.

I don't care how you slice it, there is no justification for shooting an unarmed teenage cheerleader.

Pretty easy to do in the dark if you own a common-model car. As a kid, my mother and I actually unlocked and got into a Volvo that was the same color and model. It was only when the car didn't start that we realized we were in the wrong vehicle.

When I traveled for work and had a different rental car every week, I got in the wrong car a few time and tried to get in the wrong car dozens. Glad I was never shot.

  • For the 2023 plan year: The out-of-pocket limit for a Marketplace plan can't be more than $9,100 for an individual and $18,200 for a family.
  • For the 2022 plan year: The out-of-pocket limit for a Marketplace plan can't be more than $8,700 for an individual and $17,400 for a family.

I was in Los Angeles for work last year, came out of a restaurant and tried to get into a car that looked identical to my rental car a couple of spaces over. Reading this thread, I now realize that was partly my parents fault because they did not have that talk with me as a kid.

And I can promise you this family spent more than $8,700 on BS cheerleading. And they could have spent it on higher premiums to even get a lower cap.

At this point, have to assume this is one long troll. No person is actually this big a dbag in real life. (Not even a Tesla owner)

Poe's law is alive and well on this thread. There's a post on p1 that is straight up defending the shooter and saying he may have been justified because those cheerleaders made the mistake of opening the wrong car door and may have been going to their own car to get a gun.

it gets more and more insane the more I think about it. how anyone could possibly think this POS could somehow been in the right when he shot two teenage girls? What in the literal **** are people thinking.

Not a troll. There's few thins I loathe more than people who whine about medical expenses when there are ways to mitigate it. People just have other priorities.

I absolutely have. Same model truck, same color, with same bed cover as mine parked two spaces over. It was unlocked and I opened the door and started to sit down when I noticed a ton of stuff in the passenger seat wasn't mine.

Dark parking lot with a similar car park in a similar area to where you think you left it. Absolutely could make that mistake.

Also, this is not a mistake. Stand your ground does not apply.

Weird story. This is the type of incident where after I hear the story I would automatically jump to thinking this is a parking lot drug deal gone bad in the early hours of the am, but no one is able to admit it yet. Who the heck just sits around at night in parking lots ready to blow somebody away? And then you're unlucky enough to be driving through town and accidentally get in the car with that guy? Thats nuts.

Things I loathe most:

1. Child rapists
2. Murderers
3. People that have friends that try to help them with medical expenses after a tragedy
4. People that take advantage of old people

When I owned my 2001 Ford F-150 wife and I got in the wrong one once

Same make model and even truck box and I think my remote unlocked the doors. We realized it once we were in and the back seat was filled with tools and trash

It happens for common colors and makes.

Rental cars are way worse too.

It might be worthwhile to select an unusual decal apply it to the door on each side.

I'm not to sure about this one, though:

This would solve the problem about getting into the wrong car. If it has the decal, you'll have ample warning about getting into another car. And nobody is likely to mistake your car for theirs.

On the other hand, the car rental companies might not have much sense of humor when you return a car with a decal on each side that it didn't have before.

Though reading that is tragic, I'm not entirely sure the driver isn't justified in his actions.

12:15AM someone opens your car door unannounced in a HEB parking lot. Sees you and immediately turns around and back into another vehicle. Then you roll down the window as he approaches to confront you on the matter...

This just seems like a bad sequence of events as of now more than malice.

If anyone is wondering what is wrong with the world today, I give you Exhibit A.

Medical expenses rarely bankrupt families like in the pre ACA era. That being said this family is going to have some expenses that are not covered. I still do not like that most personal tragedies result in a go fund me website being created

#1 at 66%. Pre-ACA was 68%.

https://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/0310/top-5-reasons-people-go-bankrupt.aspx
This article only states it is reason number 2 - with loss of a job being number 1.

https://www.debt.org/bankruptcy/medical/
This article states 61% of bankruptcy filers have major medical debt. Doesn't specifically rank though.

https://www.akroncantonbankruptcyattorney.com/news/top-10-reasons-people-file-for-bankruptcy-23326
#1

These are just off a google search from 2017 forward so to keep recent. In the quick search I just did...didn't see anything that listed personal bankruptcy causes greater than #2 in any study. Forbes article from 2010 stated 61% - with 78% of those bankruptcies citing they had some form of insurance. Consistent with everything I have seen in the past.

We all bear the cost of bankruptcy from higher fees on loans and higher medical costs to recover losses.

Generals is a "worlds" team that is very select and annually one of the best squads in the world. They are about to compete in the Worlds Finals in Orlando this weekend. Woodlands Elite is one of the top competitive cheer gyms in the country and girls who want scholarships and are good enough to make a team there travel from all over the Houston area and as far as Austin or Beaumont to compete on one of their teams. It sounds crazy to people without kids or with kids who never got wrapped into the very competitive worlds of baseball, cheer, gymnastics, soccer, etc., but you'd be surprised how far parents let competitive sports take their kids if they there are scholarship or professional track opportunities.

There was another thread on this subject that I had posted on. I guess it was removed entirely (?).

Don't this just beat all. On the one hand we have some posters that feel compelled to say they don't agree with the way a family handles their business. On the other hand, we have a group of posters that feel compelled to tell those posters that they don't agree with the way they're thinking........... .Same coin, different side.

What we need here is a big group hug

I'm one of those that does't have kids, but if I were I would not want to put my children in such a pressure and time intensive situation. I would want them to have a normal high school experience and spend family time at home vs. making long commutes three days a week.

edit - This is not relevant to the incident that happened. She could have been out with friends after a football game and come across a similar idiot with a gun.

You say that bc you do not have a child who begs you to compete on this teams. I know friends who work second jobs to pay fees for travel teams.
