On May 6 McKinney residents will vote to approve or disapprove a $200 million bond to create the metroplexes 3rd commercial airport.

I live in McKinney and I will be voting Yes and it seems like the airport bind will pass.

The Collin County region is fast growing and the fastest growing County in America with so much business and entertainment in this county alone or at the very least in far east Denton County the Frisco side the demand for another commercial airport is overdue.

The terminal will initially have 4 gates and I hear 2 airlines will serve McKinney National supposedly American and Delta with destinations yet to be determined. If Delta is one of the carriers Atlanta will for sure be a destination. Chicago, LA, Houston and New York are possible other cities.

The airport will attract passengers well beyond Collin County such as Southern Oklahoma, East Texas such as Paris and the Sherman/Denison area which will be much more convenient for potential passengers than driving all the way to DFW or Love Field.

Here are some renderings of what this airport will look like.

Wow, bold, but I like it. With various forms of autonomous/tiltrotors etc. coming along, to make no mention of regular air travel, an escape from DFW/LUV would be nice.

I see this airport soon becoming another Love Field type with many domestic destinations possibly international as the region continues to grow.

Other major metro areas have similar airports like Everette, WA, Burbank, Ontario, Islip, NY, Westchester County , NY

I'm still on the fence. I would only use the airport a few times a year, but would have to deal with the increased traffic on 75/380 frequently. Maybe there's a traffic solution in the works?

Too close to Love Field. Can't put it in Denton because of DFW flightpath.

Put it in Pilot Point, Tx

It's not close to Love Field, the airport already exist. East side of McKinney.

Love Field and DFW are only 10 miles apart

Or this will be a 4 gate airport primarily used by Fedex and UPS. Who is supporting/pushing this?

Seems like a no-brainer unless there's some poison pill. Alliance is another option eventually

FedEx uses Alliance and already has infrastructure there

The new airport in Mesa, AZ has been a big success for the eastern burbs of PHX

$200M doesn't seem like much. Are airlines gonna kick in some too?

Also OP fail.

Is it a McKinney National upgrade?

$325-350MMtotal

$150 MM in federal funds/grants whatever, assuming travel volumes are reached

I will take a hard pass. Not all commercial development is good. As another poster noted above, this is likely to be used by Amazon/FedEx/UPS. I know FedEx had a big Alliance facility. But imagine the transport savings being able to fly to McKinney.

I sincerely doubt there will be commercial passenger service and if there is, regional jet only.

Why would you doubt it has commercial?

I'd bet JSX will be there for sure. May have to start small, but it's a start.

Area could definitely use it

Terrible idea. Any new airport should be in Sherman.

Too close to all the other airports (where it's feasible for me to use it) but too damn far to be practical. I don't want to be forced to drive to fcking McKinney several times a year to catch a route or time I used to be able to get out of DFW.

It's not replacing DFW

I get that, but could it replace some routes from DFW? seems odd to offer identical routes from two airports ~40 miles apart, though I guess it wouldn't be unprecedented

I guess I could see a set of clients that go back and forth to Houston or some other major hub. For most flights, I'd rather drive 30 min more to DFW and not have to deal with a connecting flight.

If Meachum serving Fort Worth never worked, why would this? Unless the airlines are already on board, I don't see this working out…at least not now. Maybe way down the road. "If you build it, they will come" doesn't work too well for airports.
