Very thorough, easy to read, easy to follow thread on why RDS is the most effective conservative leader since, who knows when. Even Reagan didn't bury his opponents this way.

I truly hope more Trump supporters can have the patience to actually research and understand that DeSantis is not only a fighter he knows how to win these fights and not just tweet about it. This doesn't even get into the complex strategy that DeSantis employed to win this battle. It required a lot of strategy and legal understanding along with building support within the Legislature and staying disciplined on messaging to maintain public support.

I don't think it can be overstated how important DeSantis time as a JAG in the Marine Corps was in this fight. It took a significant legal understanding not only to craft and shepherd the original legislation, but certainly to fight Disney's efforts to circumvent the new controlling oversight district. He took on Disney and beat them handily, just like he has the Democrat establishment in Florida.

DeSantis is a rare blend of elected official that has experience in executive leadership, and also has tremendous legal, policy, financial, and political wisdom. He is fearless and stays on offense, and he is articulate enough to explain his positions plainly and cut through all the media chatter. He wins people over to his way of thinking and then proves to them it was the best way forward despite the lies the Democrats have been spouting for generations. He has a beautiful family and a great personal story. He is the best candidate Republicans have had in decades and it would be absolutely insane for him not to get the nomination.

Amen. Don't think De Santis would appoint people disloyal to him either.

Like DeSantis and hope he is next POTUS.

But Nobody is going to 'murder' Disney folks. Hyperbole there. The Mouse is a behemoth and will still be going strong for decades to come and after all of us have passed. Maybe the Mouse gets nicked up here or there but that company brings in 20+ million visitors to Florida and generates $1 billion state and local tax revenue. There may be sparring going on but nobody in Florida wants to actually 'murder' the Mouse.

The CEO got fired and they are about to start paying real property taxes and have real construction limitations.

Of course they are the golden goose who needs not be killed. But they declared war on DeSantis and got thoroughly whipped. That's the point.

You're right, the Mouse is going to be around as long as they want. They've got a product no one else can match and what's happening to them now, while good for DeSantis; to me, should've been done decades ago. No private company should have power or authority like that. All things considered, this is just putting them back to square one where they should've been all along.

Exactly. No one wants Disney gone in actuality. The world is a better place with a Disney that is still here but stops pushing perversions on kids. That's the goal.

There is a lesson in here for corporations that probably isn't going to be learned.

Corporations need to remember their main goal is to generate profit, and they would be wise to listen to valid marketing and not social media. Focus on the chicken sandwich, the beer or the movies that brings in money, and not try to win a trophy from a rainbow coalition that is going to turn on you eventually.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I'm a current taxpayer of Florida, as well as a former Disney annual passholder, and I ****ing love it.

Part of Disneys corporate governance rights was the ability to value their properties at whatever they wanted for property tax purposes. So, you do the math.

The real value is in what settlement this produces. Bob Iger and Ron DeSantis don't actually want a government oversight board issuing accountability edicts to the house of mouse. They will settle on something. If DeSantis gets Iger to abandon its woke culture, which is what I think the goal is, Florida will benefit immensely from untold new traffic to Disney.

Anecdotally, I spent $7500 or more at Disney in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018, but haven't been back since. The minute Iger announces an end to woke Disney, I am booking a $10,000 trip. I'm not alone.

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney and some of the other "woke" Corps have Fink's hand very deep in their pockets...so deep, in fact, Fink may also have a handful of cojones as well...

Fight doesn't seem to have bothered the bottom line yet.

Ironic that DeSantis is threatening to add taxes on Disney visitors. The mouse could charge $500 a day for the parks and still be overrun.

Trump is making a ton of early mistakes. At this rate all DeSantis needs to do is to keep doing his job and watch Trump implode as he reacts to all this DeSantis winning.

LOL. Tell me you don't know the first thing about corporate finance without telling me about corporate finance.

100 million streaming subscribers paying $7 a month and Disney stock is trading at the same level as 2014.

Sorry, but the Orange County tax assessor values Disney property. I own a timeshare on Disney property and the amount that we pay in property taxes increases every year. In our annual report we receive statements on how much charges for property taxes and their valuation.

Nobody has won. This will probably be settled in the courts, but DeSantis cannot control what Disney does corporate wise. That many seem to think.

well stated- I don't think DeSantis himself has ever claimed he wanted to destroy Disney

he just wants to stick up for the voters of Florida not being subjected to Disney's woke agenda

I think DeSantis went down a rabbit hole and now keeps doubling down. He is rapidly losing the PR battle which will make him irrelevant in 45 days or less. He is now threatening to build a prison near Disney while Disney keeps avoiding his trap and talking pro-Florida and pro-business. They trapped him by avoiding the fight. He will get marginalized as a one issue candidate. This helps Trump.

From another thread... Bearpitbull:

DeSantis is getting destroyed on this Disney story in the public. He didn't pivot when Disney played the pro-Florida and pro-business cards. DeSantis will drop in the polls and be a laughing stock simply because he kept digging when he got into a hole. When you find yourself threatening to build a prison next to Disney, ultimately hurting the industry the state is built on, you fell into the hole that the left wing nuts built for you. I thought he was smarter at PR than that.

Here is a hint... winning is easy if you stick to Reagan style conservatism. Pro busuness dummy not pro ego and pro entertain the olds. What the hell is wrong with him.

jrdaustin: And here's another one that didn't watch the press conference, but is having fun taking pot shots. You might want to wait a bit before dancing on the political grave of DeSantis.

Reagan style conservatism doesn't mean lying down to business encroaching into matters that it shouldn't be in. Reagan dealt with improper protests quite harshly. See the air traffic controller pink slips for example.

Jeez, dude. You just regurgitate the same nonsense that you got destroyed on in another thread? It didn't fly there, so you try it here? Here's a hint... If all you're going to do is repeat partisan talking points in drive-by posts, just go ahead and take it to your Reddit echo chamber. K?
