This was the flimsiest of charges, a misdemeanor past the statute of limitations stretched into a felony for a federal charge the feds dropped, picked up by a local DA. And it just fell apart on them.

This is correct. Once Trump made the claim of impending arrest, Bragg was stuck. If the GJ indicted, then Trump was a martyr. If the GJ failed to indict, then Bragg was an incompetent loon owned by Trump. Win/win for DJT.
