To hell with them, this year friends got everywhere from 0% to the low 3%s.

I'm sure they had better raises over the past 15 years though.

You'd be surprised, really the best way to get a raise is to apply for something because otherwise it's not going to be great.

Just a general question....Why does it take so long to get onboarded with the federal government? I was job hunting last year and didnt hear a thing on jobs I was well qualified for until 4-6 months later. By that time, I had signed contracts with new employers but I was genuinely wanting to at least have a shot at the federal jobs.

Since it they are government jobs, I am assuming they already include cost of living increases every year. Since any increase or "decrease" when it comes to government always comes after the year over year baseline increase, this would likely be closer to 12% than 5% year over year.

I'm fine with him giving a 5% raise, if he cuts 10% of the federal work force.

No.
Why?

You dont want to reduce the number of people currently on the government payroll?

Feds made like 3% in raises total between 2010 and 2020. Fed compensation in many geographic areas significantly lags behind private sector comp, and is creating some serious recruitment issues.

Further, fed raises since 2020 have significantly lagged inflation. It's not a gravy train like many make it out to be.
Looks like an 11.4% pay raise from 2010 to 2020 according to this link:

https://www.federalpay.org/gs/raises

And I imagine most private sector job raises have also significantly lagged inflation since 2020. I know mine has.

Spread them out across the country. Scatter the agencies.

The head count will take care of itself.
You could do salary reviews to align them to relative cost of living. Compared to the DC area, almost anywhere in the country would result in lower salaries without impacting their buying power.

None of them deserve a raise. And yes, the workforce should be decimated.

I agree with you there.

But it could be used as leverage to get what we want/need (reduced work force).

COVID. The 09 - 2017 period is more interesting. Then after all the COVID spending, Biden and his crew just keep on spending.

Wow, just when I was worried our civil servants were being underpaid and may not be totally in the tank for team CCP-Dem.

LGB.

I'd support a pay scale for federal workers where they get an inverse pay rate change with inflation. If the gov't is out of control and inflation is LGB/Bidenflation, their pay goes down 7 or 10 percent, like for the rest of us.

Now do their retirement compensation and get back to me.

Also exempt from Obamacare mandates on the insurance side.

Ok…….Social Security and a 401k like Thrift Savings Plan. Why should they fall under Obamacare? They already have a very good insurance program, and Obamacare was designed for those without insurance.

By the way, Fed employees already got a 4+% raise for 2023, and retirees got an 8.7% increase. Not sure why the idiot is proposing another one.

Remember when Hussein's "stimulus" raised baseline spending and was essentially never cut again? They're pieces of **** trying to break this country.

I don't understand why everyone is upset with this. Federal employees are mostly low-paying jobs.

All of us would want at least a 5% salary increase in our day jobs given the 6.5% inflation last year. I know my wife and I both got bigger numbers than that in the private sector.

Now, could we cull the heard a little (or a lot)? Sure. But I don't see a problem with a 5% inflation/ cost of living raise. It's the administration admitting to high inflation if nothing else.

Federal jobs are not low paying jobs. Most of us aren't getting COLA raises and the piece of **** you voted for has harmed our economy so badly that our employers can't afford to give it.

**** NO! They don't deserve a pay raise.

Don't forget, this is 5.2% of their base salary. They still get locality pay on top of that. I'm sure DC and surrounding areas will be well above the national average.

I didn't vote for Biden.

Most federal jobs (in quantity) are people at the post office, DMV, social services, etc. Listen to Dave Ramsey, any time anyone ever tells him that they work for the federal government, his first response is "you could make more working in the private sector". Not that he's all-knowing or anything like that, but most Federal employees are pretty low income earners.

If they get a raise, then streamline the government. Have the GAO or some organization do an honest assessment of which positions or even whole government organizations are necessary. Even Obama admitted that there is a ton of overlap in the federal government. I think he gave an example of the number of federal agencies that regulate salmon. There is a ton of overlap. It has been several years, so I could be wrong on the exact topic. Get rid of all the fluff, and we would save a lot of money by elimination of positions and agencies.
