I'm all for it if they do about a 50% cut in headcount.

Give them each a $1MM raise. I mean they can do whatever they want anyways. They may as well continue the trend.

Really hate this administration.

That's basically bribe money, gotta keep their loyalists on the reservation up there.

I'm fine with him giving a 5% raise, if he cuts 10% of the federal work force.

10%?

Minimum is 50% needing cut, and in reality, probably could get away with 90%.

Spread them out across the country. Scatter the agencies.

The head count will take care of itself.

I agree. But if 10% cut is dead on arrival, 50% would get laughed out of the room. I'd love to just start working in the right direction.

We need to start demanding trade offs.

You people are hysterical.

When has the Fed ever cut jobs.

You can only hope they cut the rate of growth.
So we agree on the problem...

Feds made like 3% in raises total between 2010 and 2020. Fed compensation in many geographic areas significantly lags behind private sector comp, and is creating some serious recruitment issues.

Further, fed raises since 2020 have significantly lagged inflation. It's not a gravy train like many make it out to be.

And yet they are fine cutting physician pay 2 years in row...(while we have never had inflationary adjustments for over 20 years).
So KJP will make 5% more to utter non-factual nonsensical spin? seems appropriate...

This administration continues to fracture this country. How is this NOT a foreign intelligence mission to destabilize the US?

Ever notice that the government NEVER has layoffs?

It only ever expands. It's like an organism, or a cult. It serves its own interest, which is to grow. It does the bare minimum to serve the people but goes to extremes to serve itself.

The Army is literally conducting civilian layoffs now and over the next few years. So much ignorance in this thread.

I do not think is is a gravy train, but it is pretty much a guaranteed job for life. Recession proof, merger and acquisition proof, and other guarantees that the private sector does not enjoy. Trade offs are to be expected

We can agree that many federal positions are over compensated or benefitted compared to the private sector, but the only tech workers and engineers I can get in my hiring pools are woefully unqualified kids who picked up a certificate while driving Uber Eats.

That's all comp driven. Good applicants ghost me after they get their formal offer letters.

Of course it will. They're not trying to do what is good for America. They are buying votes and destroying the middle class.

Shutdowns and Federal Employees' Pay

The biggest change comes from the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act, under which all federal employees are considered in "pay status" during the shutdown, even those non-essential workers who have previously been furloughed

The rub is that these employees will not receive paychecks while their agencies are closed, but the law guarantees that they will receive back pay for the workdays during the shutdown, including benefits, accrual of leave, bonuses, and all other compensation they would normally receive when the government reopens.

This is a perfect example of something being too big and rigid… the government. A smaller more agile government would be able to understand that certain position do not fall correctly in their GS pay scale.

Is this to include border patrol and ICE? Because from what I know, even entry level employees can make six figures their first year and they don't exactly have the stringest of requirements to be hired.

Oh, they have layoffs...it's just that they get rehired when the Republican led Budget stalemate is overridden...

Us normies would call it a Furlough with Back-pay, but "Lay-offs" draws much more sympathetic reactions from MSM...

Don't disagree, and you're seeing more and more orgs seek special dispensation to develop their own pay systems. Hell, we're doing it now.

GS system needs to be blown up completely.

Gov Contractors do not get back pay... Critical positions keep working and do not get paid until the resolution is signed. Yes, MOST all non essential employees do get back pay. Every job has its benefits and there are many Gov workers that should be fired, but that is true in many professions.
