About 20 years ago I was planning a road trip to Big Bend country and did a Google search for tourist things to do in Presidio / Ojinaga that weren't Copper Canyon. The first five hits were dentists across the river.

I'm now seeing headlines that two were found alive by Mexican authorities. I thought the cartel still had them.

So the cartel joined the weekly Deep State zoom meetings to offer up their willingness to help distract the public?

One of my nieces (early 40's) often goes to "Old Mexico", rents a house (doesn't stay at a resort) & goes out to bars and "whoops" it up!
Her older brother, a county Sheriff in MN, constantly warns her to "watch out" cause she's "messing with "fate""!

People do this all the damn time without any consequences. White and Hispanic folks do this daily.

It's amazing how many of you keyboard warriors up in Frisco and Katy think you know about the border. It's not as bad as it once was when the cartel violence first broke out.

This specific situation seems to be a case of mistaken identity, which is why both governments got involved.

And if you think that the US and Mexican governments are fully aware AND allowing the cartels to operate as long as no one of consequence gets hurt, then you aren't as smart as you think you are.
Yeah, maybe there isn't an all out turf war going on RIGHT NOW, but it's still really effing bad. You can live 100-200 miles from the border and know that. And almost all of us have friends and family living down there who give us the scoop. Hell it's pretty bad on this side. I know people who have had to hold gang bangers on their own land at gunpoint.

I think the keyboard warriors in/from the Valley are the funniest..."I go all the time, I'm not scared, y'all don't know what you're talking about, it's not that bad". You may feel fine cruising through Juarez or Piedras or Matamoros as someone who looks indistinguishable from most of the residents of those towns, but I can almost guarantee you'd feel like a fish out of water as a white or black person.

Anyone seen any reports of the criminal history (or lack thereof) of the four victims? I would not believe any narrative of what went down until all the investigation is done.

Could be mistaken identity. Could be that they tried to buy drugs and circumvent the parties controlling such transactions. Time will tell

Mexico is a lot like South Africa. Sure, it's totally fine to go there until you get kidnapped, raped, or murdered and then it's not so fine. The crime rates in both are astronomical so why tempt fate when there are many other nice places to go.

I am sure there are a few "safe passage" towns for whitey...although I wouldn't like my long term odds if I was going to ANY Mexican border town almost every day. My Mexican buddy from Oaxaca says he would never go to most border towns or travel some of the highways leading to the interior. And he used to make pretty routine road trips to places like Monterey etc.

I wish Mexico would turn things around. I miss partyin in Acuna and Piedras Negras. We used to tear up a place called Moderno's down there...supposed inventors of the nacho lol.

It's a delicate dance, but apparently it's being used as a distraction to whatever a person wants the media focused on (two examples supra), and yet will be memory holed as uncomfortable for being too on point (per below).

So a quick distraction, followed by forgetfulness. It's a Rorschach cartel hit.

Quote:

The media is going to memory hole the **** outta this story.

1. Cartel violence against Americans? Check.
2. Violence in close proximity to the American border? Check.
3. Minority Americans killed by future minority Americans? Check.

I work with a guy who went to Tijuana last year with his wife so she could get lap band surgery. He said it was a great experience. It was $5K and the hospital set them up at a beach house on Rosarita Beach for the week they were there. He said the hospital was pristine and they waited on them hand and foot. Everything turned fine for them. Wife lost a ton of weight and hasn't had any issues since.

Anyway, I wouldn't ever do that, but their time was a success story. Also, he said the hospital had them park on the US side of the border and a hospital van picked them up and took them across the border and trolleyed them around all week so they didn't drive in.

Sister in law did the same thing a couple of months ago. I think it was a medical tourism company that set everything up. Flew into San Diego, Hospital van picked them up, took them to Hotel. Van picked them up the next day and took them to the hospital, which was behind a tall, locked gate. Didn't leave the hospital until time to go back across the border to SD. Never felt like they were in any kind of danger.

Like most everything these days, there's a big gap in between "nobody should ever go to Mexico" and "there's no problem going across".

I live in the Valley and I don't go across. Haven't for a long time now. Most of my friends are the same way. But I know people (including gringos) who go to Nuevo Progreso to eat or buy pharmaceuticals. I know people (including gringos) who have offices on the Mexican side who travel across frequently without a problem.

I also know people who have had to hide out in the back of a store because of some gunfire erupting. I know these same businessmen tell me that the locals on the Mexican side will tell them certain areas to avoid that day if they're going across.

From what I'm reading, at least one of these people had already been across once for a medical procedure without a problem. It's pretty well known down here that the bad guys watch who is coming across. I really think these 4 were misidentified and just got caught up in a bad situation. It's a pretty lawless country once you cross the border, and things can go sideways real quickly.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, but how anybody could think that getting a surgery in Mexico is a good idea is beyond me. Truly, that is something that I would never even consider.
I personally know 3 Mexican American girls who got nose jobs in Mexico in the past year or two. Granted, they were done in Monterrey and San Miguel de Allende, which are much safer cities than Matamoros or any border town. The nose jobs were all done very well, with respected surgeons, and much cheaper than it would have cost in the US. There are some very good surgeons/doctors in Mexico and South America that a lot of Americans visit for their procedures.
they should go to Colombia for plastic surgery

it's heavily subsidized by the government

Tummy tuck was the cover story for the group. This is most def a side drug deal that cartel got wind of and someone forgot to get the proper permits for transport.

Then someone popped off at the lip when they declined the additional fees. Cartel ain't taking lip from a Haitian wannabe.

THIS!

Assuming Americans choose to pay attention to these dead kids (well, two of them), then it's likely they'll also hear about the fentanyl and meth going across our borders like shoes and furniture. However, the cartels wouldn't be sending it over if they couldn't make money, so it's still our problems.
