Sounds like a guy I worked with a few years back, Said he was in the Army and worked with Rangers, Delta's and Green Berets. Come to find out, he was just the supply guy. Whole department ragged on him till he transferred to court division. Dude was such a tool.

Vets arguing with each other over whose service means more is one of the *****iest things I've ever seen. I did what I was asked to do. I helped and cared for who I was supposed to help. I'm not a hero. I don't see myself as anything more than someone who felt the need to serve and did. My body is a wreck. I have a TBI from rollover accident in on deployment and I'll never be completely normal. I'm extremely sorry if my service doesn't live up to your standards. And I'd do it all over again.

I am not arguing the US government can't come up with $100 billion or 200 a year for the next few years (though hopefully with a GOP house enough republicans stop that). I am not sure 2 trillion dollar deficits are sustainable though, that long.

The jihad squad is already seeking a $100 billion reduction in DoD budget for next year. Some of these munitions will take over 7 years to replace I have read. I'm not sure at all where any of this shakes out politically domestically in our budget priorities, but it would be nice to have an honest debate about that.

That is likely right.

According to a policy analysis years ago, the draft is aimed primarily at getting a number of people on the battlefield regardless of their abilities and intelligence. If you want cannon fodder, the draft is perfect. For a high tech army like today, most of those who would be drafted would probably be unfit to do much.

The analysis also pointed out that in the early days of a war, the number of volunteers probably be more than the training resources could handle. In the meantime, the draft could be activated while resources are allocated and readied for training.

I have no idea how accuracy the policy analysis was, but it mostly seemed to make sense.

I wonder what the compliance with the draft registration is like these days. I remember that when I turned 18, I went to the county courthouse within a week of my birthday and registered. I wonder what percentage of those who could be drafted if the draft was reinstated actually register any more.
