1. Construction is hard work
2. Construction pays very well
3. Can't do construction and get the $60+k in government handouts.

Want more construction workers? Stop giving handouts. Then there will be way more people doing construction work, including blacks.

Libs want to give free college.
College grads don't do construction work.

Want more blacks specifically in construction? Hmmm. Doesn't seem libs want black construction workers.

Mayor Pete needs to hop on his bike and ride around to some construction sites. What a stupid ass opinion.

Mayor Pete is a ****ing idiot.

I took a class at my local trade school because I wanted to learn how to do some basic welding. The instructor there said the two biggest barriers to jobs in the trade are 1. showing up and 2. drugs, by a long shot. Race was not mentioned as a factor at all.

I think I'll take the word of a trade instructor whose job it is to actually train and place tradesmen in the workforce over Mayor Pete who proves he know nothing every time he opens his mouth.

Well, one of the ATC controllers in Austin last week was apparently a black guy. So that DEI worked out well. Hit those quota's, Petey. Transportation is getting more exciting than ever, under his watchful eye!

TBF, Jordan was a better player on a per game basis. Even with his two lackluster seasons with the Wizards after coming out of retirement a second time, he averaged 30 points a game. Havlicek averaged 21. They were about equal in rebounds and assists. If Jordan hadn't retired in 94-95, I could see the Bulls winning 8 in a row.

On top of that, Jordan was just an incredible athlete and fun to watch because of how he could dunk. He had a lot of marketable style.

Havlicek existed in the pre-3 point line level.

Jordan was way more marketable.
There is a movie coming out soon on that.

how about the overall popularity of the NBA?

Havlicek finished his career in 1978. I don't recall that NBA basketball was that big a deal back then.

I have been in construction in one capacity or another for 25 years.

The only time I wasn't a complete minority on my jobsite was way back in the day when I was an hourly hand on some industrial projects - still a minority because i'm a honky, but there were a decent amount of whiteys there, especially when you included the electricians and instrumentation guys in the mix.

Since then, it's safe to say that 90% of every crew is brown. The occasional black guy, but those are getting rarer and rarer these days. Electricians and instrument guys are still mostly white folk, but not nearly to the degree that it used to be - especially electricians.

Ole buttplug needs to sit down and shut up. But then again, that applies to every bit of the feds as well.

This is the single biggest barrier, bar none.

I can work with #2 if the guy is reliable at showing up and does good work. But if you don't show up, doesn't matter.

A lot of companies drug test which is why #2 is such a factor. Maybe not so much in the hammer slinger homebuilder type construction, but certainly in the heavier construction industry.

Reading comprehension fail.

Also, I remember the computer failure one fine morning last month leading to a nationwide flight shutdown. That was fun, but the FAA prioritized diversity in their budget, yay!

And yes, Obama did dumb down the FAA, because the FAA/ATC were 'too white.' So, to be fair, some of this predates the chest feeder secretary:

Quote:

"The system was designed to choose the best, and for decades it worked," Carlson said.
But then the Obama administration decided it wasn't working the way liberals wanted it to.

"Activist bureaucrats decided that the pool of air traffic wasn't diverse enough," Carlson said. "They never explained why diversity ought to matter in air traffic control, or why it was more important than traditional goals like competence and public safety."

But still things changed.

The FAA now uses a "biographical questionnaire" to screen applicants, which is apparently intended to increase the number of minorities who qualify for the jobs. What the questionaire scoring system rewards and penalizes is, as Carlson put it, "shocking."

The questionnaire favors applicants who performed poorly in science class in high school and have not held a job for three years before applying to the FAA, Carlson said. ("Apparently, unemployed people make the best air traffic controllers," he added. "This is demented, by the way, but it's real.")
The government shouldn't be prioritizing/favoring any job hires based on 'biographical' questions that somehow benefit those who haven't had a job for 3 years or did poorly in science.

Never, ever vote for a democrat. Our lives could depend on it.

Kind of this too. Havlicek started in the early 60's, and pro sports weren't what they are today or even what they were in the 80's and 90's. I think a big part of it is the mix of Jordan's superstardom and the attitude of excess in the 80's though. I don't think personal branding like Air Jordans would have worked in the 60's and 70's. They were just different times.

I knew a guy a couple of classes behind me at A&M, who's dad was a (very well off) banker in Lubbock. I ran into the dad one summer, and asked what his son was up to. Dad replied that son was communing with that famous Mexican philosopher:

"Man-u-el Lay-bor" (Manual Labor).

Always admired that Dad made sure son got some real world experience.

Jordan scored less than 600 3's. If they'd have all been 2 pointers, he'd still average 28.5 points a game

That and the way he would just hang in the air, whether it was a jumper or a flashy drive to the hoop. Sometimes had this look of almost brief suspension mid air.

Democrats from the northeast are so stupid and they need to get out of their bubble.

Also, these workers up there are heavily unionized and would do anything to keep these people from taking their jobs. And they all just got bailed out.

No human with awareness of whether the ball is stuffed or pumped with air would compare Havlicek to Jordan. That's dumber than comparing gentle modern rule hand check fluffy NBA stats to MJ.
