2027 Friendswood point guard Chase Richardson commits to A&M hoops

Four-star Friendswood point guard Chase Richardson‍ has announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

Bucky McMillan’s first commitment from the class of 2027 is the No. 4 player in Texas and a top-75 recruit overall.

At 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, Richardson is the first hand-picked point guard Bucky McMillan has plucked from the high school ranks. McMillan knows an aggressive, relentless leader when he sees one, and Richardson is the perfect Bucky Ball lead guard.

He’s hard-nosed, wants to press you defensively, has great vision, can shoot and sees the game with the speed and decision-making McMillan needs from his point guards. Richardson was A&M’s top priority at point guard in 2027, and there’s a lot to be excited about with the young backcourt McMillan is building up through high school recruiting. Richardson joins former four-star combo guard and top-50 prospect Neiko Mundey‍, who was A&M’s priority in the 2026 class in the backcourt.

In an interview with TexAgs after his official visit, Richardson mentioned how much playing close to home would influence his recruitment, and that ultimately won out, as the Aggies secured his commitment less than two weeks after he visited campus. With Friendswood less than two hours away from College Station, Richardson’s family will be able to make the short drive up to watch their son play.

McMillan and his staff beat Purdue, Nebraska, Virginia and Notre Dame for his recruitment, despite both Matt Painter and the Boilermakers and Fred Hoiberg and the Cornhuskers getting the more recent visit.

This is another massive recruiting win for this staff, as they start to establish their dominance in recruiting this talent-rich state. They aren’t done yet in this 2027 class, either.

The first domino falls in McMillan’s second high school class, with one of the top players in the state of Texas staying home to play Bucky Ball.
