As soon as they started in with the, 'yeah but there were more balloons during Trump' you knew that the story was lol bs. The tds was too strong for them. They gave themselves away.

do F-22s not have forward facing cannons for dogfighting? Why not just shoot these balloons down the old fashioned way?

Might introduce a real danger to the pilot given the speed differential?

Somebody said there was a design defect in the pod bay door. Won't open above a certain altitude.

That's above 50KF, and it is because the air is so thin up there that there are a number of reasons you wouldn't typically be using a gun, so it wasn't designed to operate. It is difficult to fly way up there, you can't make sudden turns or do any real maneuvering as your aircraft will stall or lose control, so there's no "dogfighting". It can still be a missile platform though.

The balloons are probably almost as cold as the air around them so the seeker will have trouble with it.

The lake balloon was lower, and they could use guns, but I think the idea is the shells would pass right through the balloon without doing more than poking holes, but then fly on for a considerable distance to hit who knows what when they land, whereas a live missile typically self destructs when it fails to hit a target before falling below a certain velocity needed to keep maneuvering.

that's a tactical challenge to be solved. easy method would be to get beneath it, pull (close to) straight up vertical and let gravity slow the aircraft to a low closing speed. Shoot from max range and peel off before getting too close to object or potential debris field. Wash, Rinse, Repeat until splashed. [edit] or, maybe not based on Mouth's post above. didn't consider effects of the thin air on aerodynamic controls.

I have no idea how anyone can take "our" government seriously at this point. "It was the CCP! They were doing it under Trump too! It might've even been aliens! Nevermind, it was just research balloons."

And now back to "trust us, we didn't blow up the nordstream pipeline and we need to send billions more to Ukraine." Oh, and "devout catholics need to be monitored by the FBI." All of this in what, less than a week of actual/official communications?

And my trial watching habit has added state prosecutorial officers and a lot of judges to my cynical list. Except for the prosecutors in the Waukesha Christmas Parade case. That group were consummate professionals, like prosecutors are supposed to and did use to be.

At those altitudes, there's no cloud cover, so, it's getting direct sunlight energy. That will heat it up enough for a FLIR to see it since it will be warmer than the surrounding air.

We did anti-tank missile testing at WSMR in the mid 90s where we could see a NON OPERATING tank that had been out in the environment for months quite easily on our FLIR. I mean, it was LITERALLY black and white. And this was on a 0900 launch so it had been cooled down all night and only warmed up for a couple hours.

That was probably 1980s tech. I now have a $6K FLIR camera now that fits on a small UAS and it's at LEAST as good as that the FLIR we had back then (which I'm quite sure was very expensive).

That took two rockets to bring down since the first one missed.

It is a good thing that the balloon did not shoot back.

It's true that there are things that are being identified that don't resemble anything else, that largely don't present a threat, and we have to figure out what to do about them. And it turns out, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them."

LOL, so now we knew about the 1 actual Chicom balloon from when it was launched.

Quote:

The Biden team has claimed that they first learned about it on Jan. 28, when it was near Alaska. Then, as I've noted before, their story evolved, first saying they didn't have time to take a shot over Alaskan waters. Then NORAD Commander Glen VanHerck said he couldn't take the shot because it wasn't demonstrating "hostile intent."

So if this report from CBS is correct, add one more lie to what they told us about this whole story and they had plenty of time to plan a takedown over water, contrary to what they said. If they had wanted to.

The bottom line is that they only reacted after the backlash from the public. We can see how Joe Biden downplayed the whole thing and even said he didn't see this as any kind of a "major breach." Likely, they never would have shot it down, had it not been for the American public getting upset about it after Americans in Billings, Montana made their sighting public. It's also likely why they are shooting down objects they claim they can't identify.

CBS said the leading theory was that the other three objects which they are having trouble recovering were harmless research balloons and as we previously reported, likely benign. But how can you say that if you also say that you don't even know what they are? Even pilots were "perplexed" by what they saw, with different descriptions of the objects. GOP senators argued that the Biden team has to speak on the objects and what is going on. CBS said the Biden team had ruled out that any of these objects were connected with the U.S. government.
Absolutely nothing asserted by the executive branch of the US government should be taken at face value/believed. Not a single word, whether it is about inflation, Russia, China, oil prices, or homeland defense.

That whole article sounds like Kamala trying to talk about boiling water. You can see right through their incompetence. I was pretty sure they were 80% evil and 20% stupid. I might have to change that opinion.

Biden has always been incompetent. Why should anyone think that the people he surrounds himself with are any better? I'm not sure what the exact evil to stupid ratio is but I think the stupid component should be higher. Perhaps a lot higher.
