Why don't all of these budding business experts buy the coffee shop and run it the way they want?

As a small business owner I can tell you good luck even finding a zero deductible insurance today! It is hard as hell to find an insurance that even pays anything until you reach your deductible. Our current policy cost $980 per employee, $2500 deductible. So that would add $6.85 an hour assuming 40 hour work week and employer covering the deductible, Add in the employers share of fed and state taxes ( Texas is approx.0875) your effective cost per hour for employee is $34 an hour. Assuming they had 2 weeks vacation adding 1 week with 24 employees means you need to add another 1/2 employee to cover the time.

Once you add rent, you would have to sell a **** ton of coffee!

Mind boggling. Do they expect the city to come in and force the owners to keep their business open?

Democrats are morons. Dumbest people on the planet.

They should've asked their fellow students to fund their healthcare through the tip jar. Then they'd realize how well socialism works without government force.

Explain to me how smart people can be so dumb.

One of my old co-worker's sons went to Harvard. Dude was elite book smart but completely ignorant to the real world. He was a big time lib who, when he got his first check (sign on bonus included) from some IB in NYC for his internship, was floored that it wasn't what it was supposed to be. He called my co-worker (conservative who was born in a socialist country), who explained taxes to him. I guess it never clicked that he'll be paying taxes as well to help find all of the stupid chit he supports.

The info I see says the 3 remaining locations are not closing. Where did you see that all 4 are closing? That makes the protests make (a tiny bit) more sense.

Likely the most expensive rent, considering the location. Just shooting from the hip here.

Darwin's Ltd., a famous Cambridge coffee chain, announced the closure of all four of its locations on Wednesday, only two weeks after disclosing plans to close its original shop in Harvard Square.

Owners Steven and Isabel Darwin announced in an Instagram post that they will retire and close the chain's Cambridge St., Massachusetts Ave., and Putnam Ave. locations.

In most commercial endeavors labor consists of 70% of the operating expenses. Rents usually float between 8-15%. If that number is nominally high, the goods/service price tends to index proportionally.

Here's another thing, it's obvious these idiots live in a fantasy world, were lied to by teachers, professors, union *******s and grifting politicians. They were also lied to and coddled by their parents that it's someone else's responsibility to take care of them.

You're serving ****ing coffee, not curing cancer. If you make outlandish demands ($24 an hour and 0$ deductible insurance….what?) and the owner decides to close, that's it. It's not the owners job to bankrupt themselves to make life comfortable for you. It's certainly not the owners job to keep paying for you after closing. Get another job or find one that fits whatever lifestyle you want you ****ing losers.

Oh and when you get to your next job, don't get there and stomp your feet making outlandish demands, ****ing things up for the hard-working folks trying to make an honest living. I swear this childish progressive/socialist nut jobs are like a fast-spreading cancer.

The guy holding the sign with "$24/hr is a living wage" should start his own coffee stand (considering how much knowledge of the industry he must already possess) and he can keep all of the profits after providing all of those needs to himself.

If you have a job that someone can be trained to do in a half a day to less than a week, that is a minimum wage job and not a living wage job. Learn skills from a minimum wage job and move up from there to a living wage job. Health insurance, $24/hr and 3 weeks vacation for essentially someone to pour coffee and ask if the customer wants a receipt is idiotic. The management of the stores getting insurance, vacation and a good wage, sure I can see that (maybe not the $0 deductible insurance but the benefits).
Guarantee you that when you pay there you also get prompted to leave a 15/18/20% tip on the screen as well and the employees stare you down as they tell you to "fill this out". So they get a lot of fools to pay them a few bucks for every transaction (probably 30 customers an hour at times) for handing them a coffee.

The reality is that a lot of folks have now gotten to the point where they can make more money working in jobs like this than they could working in a regular job where you don't get tips just for showing up. I'm all for tipping a waiter who gets paid less than minimum wage and it's part of their pay. Folks like this who get paid as a regular employee and get tips on top though really annoy me.

If any of those dipshiz had any brain or balls they'd go and lease the space and open their own place. They could name it United Coffee. Lots of value in the site as it's built out and patrons are conditioned to going there.

Problem is they're dipshiz peer coworkers. The $24 wage isn't gonna look very viable on their proforma lol.

Their slogan can be "support United, love $15 coffees!"

Now Darwin's should just sell these stores to these great labor leaders to run using their utopian ideals.

Of course, these twits will be at each other's throats within 60 days and lose even more money.

Which I'd like to watch. I'm mean that way.
