I wish I could find the picture. Dennis the Menace and Joey have a lemonade stand. Sign says lemonade $100.00 a glass. Dennis says to Joey, "relax, all we gotta sell is one glass".

The workers should form a cooperative and buy the business from the owners. Then they could operate it as a worker's utopia for all of a week before they go out of business.

Not if they agreed to the union. Most likely the were contractually obligated to use union labor.

The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.

where are all the resident Libs/Democrats on TexAgs to defend the Union? I am waiting for them to tell us how this makes any financial sense and is just.

Of course these are the same folks that support KKK Joe and his corruption, can't tell what a woman is, support sexualization of children, the murder of children, untested vaccines, and the list goes on and on. They never explain any of that either. So I won't hold my breath they will explain this one.

At this point, insanity seems to be the only explanation for supporting any of the above, including the Union in this Post.

I'm sure in a state friendly to unions that is impossible. I bet federal regulations would make it hard even in a right-t-work state. However, I bet puling the plug on the whole business is a move that catches everyone off guard.

After meeting union demands:

Your small, plain coffee is $42.34. Creamer is a $9.00 add on.

Thanks and have a great day, comrade!

If you can pay your employees $24 to pour liquid in a cup AND still turn a profit (or break even) - go for it. It's YOUR company. But when you have to raise the cost of your product so high that no one will buy your product, therein lies the problem. Good luck.

p.s. The market will self-correct this decision.

The amusing part to me is that the oblivious solution is a profit sharing model - but when the owners follow this method the recurring complaint is that the owners are hiding / lying about their finances.

Go old school pirate method of 3shares to the captain/owner, 2 shares to the quartermaster/manager, and 1 share for everyone else. You'd still hear complaining about not getting a living wage and ownership doesn't deserve their cut and hiding money and whatnot

Corrupt union leadership, a mainstay of the DNC and liberalism / socialism, is the cancer.

Having a union is not the issue. Running the union with the ideals of a corrupt communist dictator is the cancer.

I own a small business. $5,500 - $7,000 per employee per year would be the rough cost depending on the plan and age of the workforce. The paid time off would also be pretty costly for a coffee shop.

I'll go work for a "living wage" in the richest zip in the country code pouring coffee. I mean every service or retail company must pay the lowest grunt enough money to live without struggle in the neighborhood of the worksite according to democratic underground. Of course, I'll live a few zip codes away but that's not the point.

The absolute irony of using the best example of redundancy to say my post made no sense.

You libs need to read the dictionary before you employ your Dawson's Creek vocabulary.

Great point that many overlook, including myself. I can give most all my team as much time off as they want, but certain employees require me to bring in someone to cover every hour of their work. A properly staffed retail location would have a HUGE increase in employee costs by offering paid time off.

Again, excellent point.

But seriously, why do you think U of Phoenix grads earn more than Harvard grads? That's just asinine. Regardless of the relative quality of education, there's just no other way to get all those "Harvard connections" than actually going there.

Over my career, I had the occasion to advise many people who wanted to start a small business (5 to 25 employee sorts of things). My advice to all of them was not to provide health insurance. In many cases, their employees could get on their spouse's plan (let the spouse's employer bear the burden of health insurance) but tell them you are paying a higher wage rate to help make up for it. If times get a little lean, you can help offset that through lower wage increases until things turn around. But health insurance costs are only going to go up, jumping up a very high rate each and every year.

And you either cover that cost - giving the employee a raise that they don't see or appreciate - or they are forced to cover it and believe you're cutting their pay. It's quite the racket with the "evil," "rich" business owner getting hosed by a bunch of ne'er-do-wells like those in the OP.
