I agree that he was most likely obsessed and then his compulsion took over. He HAD to do it and got really sloppy.

But one was out at 4ish in the morning and rolled back into WSU campus shortly after the murder, a place where they literally have a list of names (and not a long one) associated with the car.

They did a good job tying it together, but this didn't require magically watching BK before. That was very straight-forward investigative work that got the dominoes rolling

Ethan's was set to private.

I know many 20-21 year olds that just want the followers. They don't mind who. If the number goes up, they're closer to being influential.

The video and the WSU cops locating his name and his car put them on to Khoberger on its own. They had his name and located his car just a few days after they knew they were looking for a white elantra. The phone activity was a follow-up warrant to help confirm he still seemed to fit. Just like the knife sheath waiting for a name to match. They wouldn't have needed the phone to check dad's trash

Hadn't seen this discussed yet, although I know it was speculated. It's confirmed that BK visited the restaurant where the two victims worked.

The article says police have collected security video from the restaurant and surrounding areas. The murders happened back in November, and presumably he was at the restaurant some time before that. Typically how long is security video kept? I guess you could store quite a bit with a digital system as long as you have a big enough hard drive.

It's a tiny town. I'd bet most have been there at least once. Given he's a strict vegan, his options may have been limited.

I was inarticulate on that speculation. Reason I suggested that was because the initial FBI response included two from the BAU, that is, profilers. Was there someone on their radar in the area?

We know he was on Reddit asking for criminals to share their feelings and motivations for committing crimes in late May 2022. Because of response and analysis times, that project would not be directly related to his Master's awarded a few weeks later in June 2022.

It is also possible that the FBI was looking at BK as a potential employee for BAU? He was a student under Dr. Ramsland and they certainly are familiar with her through her work with the BTK killer.

From the article it said he made sure his pizza didn't come into contact with animal products, yet he had no problem essentially swimming in blood during the murders. Definitely major wires crossed in that brain.

This was confirmed true. Lots of fake accounts created after his arrest, but supposedly an authentic one that was actually his before the arrest has now been deleted.
