I am a lawyer so of course I will say this, but it shouldn't take being a lawyer to know that this is the absolute smartest possible thing one can do in this situation, period. I'm not saying don't "ever" talk to the cops, but if it's just about anything other than jaywalking or a speeding ticket, don't talk to the cops.

Especially in a non-victimless crime where the police are looking for suspects, if you bear some relationship to that crime, even if it's by pure happenstance, no matter how distant, do not talk to the cops. I am honestly surprised that the victims' own immediately family members are out talking to media and posting on Instagram and whatnot. That is so stupid. I'm sure they (the immediate family) are all innocent, but I would have told all of them to lawyer up from day 1 ESPECIALLY if they are innocent.

I think a lot of people believe that criminal defense lawyers' primary function is to defend criminals and suspected criminals. I think their primary function is just as much to ensure that innocent people are not made out to be criminals or suspected criminals by law enforcement.
right of course but its a bad look

I don't think so. Assuming she is innocent, she (along with the other roommate) is one of the two most likely people in the world to have her DNA in some incriminating place through no fault of her own. There is no way I would just hand over a DNA sample if I lived in that house. Make them establish the probable cause for a warrant if they want the DNA.

If I've learned anything from listening to true crime podcasts… ALWAYS lawyer up no matter guilt or innocence.

Kind of sounded like that to me too. The Hubs and I can be in different rooms at either end of the ranch house and still hear a very large owl through closed windows with the TV on. They can be very loud and vary their hoots. Can't really determine where they are located.

It is a wooded area just behind the house with cul de sacs. Lots of trees on that hill behind the house where the second and third floors are located.

Correct, they are a search team and not investigators. But I was thinking the "Equis" she mentioned was probably Texas EquuSearch since I know they worked on that case in the search for her. If memory serves me they were involved twice, right in the beginning then later when that Vander Sloot (or whatever his name was) came into the mix.

There is no legal significance to law enforcement saying somebody is cleared. It doesn't protect you from anything.

Perception is only reality because it is what has been told to us through all the cop drama shows on the tv. They have engrained this into the publics brain for a reason. If they changed that and made every suspect on tv ask for a lawyer and the cop answer with "great choice, that is exactly what you should do in this situation" then the public would think that was the norm.

No, it is not. Did you watch the Waukesha Parade Killer trial? Took about 30 minutes to get a search warrant for Brooks' vehicle after the mass murder.

A DNA swab is a search of a human. Probable cause a crime was committed-check. Person asked to be searched was present at crime scene and at time of crime-check. Probable cause that evidence of said crime is located there (in her cheek)-check.

What are you seeing that is contra to probable cause?

Not sure how "recent" this news is but from what I gather it is a pretty recent revelation. Obviously we know that the white sedan has been sought, but additional footage was recently gathered from a nearby gas station that shows that vehicle driving by quickly at around the estimated time of the murders. At worst, this probably more than confirms what the police already suspected in that this vehicle is more than likely the suspect(s) vehicle.

Can't tell if this investigation is picking up steam, but from my vantage point it seems to be!

https://www.foxnews.com/us/idaho-murders-cops-take-hours-video-gas-station-clerk-spots-white-car-night-stabbings

Quote:

MOSCOW, Idaho EXCLUSIVE: Detectives collected eight hours of surveillance video Tuesday morning from a gas station in Moscow where a clerk saw a white sedan passing by at 3:45 a.m. on the night of the unsolved stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students, according store workers.

An overnight assistant manager told Fox News Digital that she's been reviewing the tapes a little bit at a time over the past few days, looking for clues in her downtime on the graveyard shift. She said she was not working on the night of the murders.

Monday night, she said, she reached the 3 o'clock hour and spotted the car. She said she took a picture of the screen and sent it to an email address police set up to receive tips.

"I had a weird feeling to go get on the cameras," she said, asking that her name not be publicized out of safety concerns as the suspect remains at large.

It's not luck, they have asked from the beginning for people with video to turn it over. You do realize that they don't have the right to just go confiscate privately owned video footage, don't you? They need cooperation of the business owners to get it.
