I think I read that they were all found in their beds and were assumed to be sleeping.
Or was that possibly staged in one or more? Granted, I'm a true crime buff with an interest in serial killers and mass murderers, so I look for those types of dots to connect.

Staging a murder scene is common with serials.

Do we honestly believe this is a serial killer? That's one hell of a start.
The beginning of one? Certainly a possibility. That person gets away with this one?

wow, this is a parent's absolute worst nightmare. What an awful situation and really strange at that. With the way we binge drank and college kids still do, I could see a house of drunken college kids sleeping right through this, even if it was loud and violent. T&P for everyone involved.

Prayers to the families.

I have slept through my father trying to wake me up when the house across the street was on fire, and later slept through a (very loud) fire alarm in a dorm room. No drugs or alcohol involved. I was just tired from physical activity.

Regarding this case, someone previously proposed that the remaining roommates came home after this happened. That makes sense to me. Has a timeline of the events been seen yet?

..did she call her killer 7 times while he was n the house, a clue for the cops?

Nevermind, just saw updates. Why do you think killer was in the house while she was calling?

Calls could be something, could be nothing but a late night booty call. They apparently got home around 1:45, and then she starts calling him about 30 mins later. Interesting that they stopped right before the believed time of murder, but could be a coincidence. Interesting nonetheless.

The Spokane County ME did the autopsies.

No evidence of any substance abuse for any of the victims. Also, in seeing picture of house, I could see why the roommates didn't wake up, nor probably even check on the others for most of the day.

Just think of your kid went to school there. I'd be greatly concerned.

Part if me wonders if it isn't a neighbor (who had been rejected by the girls).

If I had a daughter going there I am not sure I would send her back for the spring semester. And I am certainly not a helicopter parent. But until this guy is under arrest I would be worried.

And I bet there are a lot of finals conducted on-line there in the next few weeks.

I figured this had to be either drugs or a sexual predator. You always have to consider drugs with violent crimes, but that does not appear to be the case here. This story says that the autopsies showed no evidence of sexual assault.

The victims were likely asleep at the time of the attack and each was stabbed multiple times, police said Friday, citing the coroner. Some had defensive wounds, police said. There is no indication of any sexual assault, the coroner said.

No telling what happened. VERY disturbing situation.

…..the call is a clue possibly, knowing she was in deep trouble and leaving a clue to the police. I could see the creep having his phone on mute inside the house not knowing she is pinging him over and over. She is hiding and pinging.

Just speculating, horrible case and hoping and praying it is solved soon.

The first call to the man, Jack DuCoeur, was at 2:26 a.m., and there were six more over the next 26 minutes, with the final one at 2:52, Ms. Goncalves said. She said Mr. DuCoeur, also a student at the university, missed them because he was sleeping, and that her sister's phone account did not show any other calls.

Ms. Goncalves said Mr. DuCoeur, who did not respond to a request to discuss the case, had been a childhood friend of her sister's. She said that they had been dating for years until recently, when they decided to take an amicable break. Ms. Goncalves said she and her family "stand behind Jack 100 percent and know he absolutely had nothing to do with this at all."

She also said that the number of calls was not unusual: Kaylee Goncalves would frequently call people late at night, and often until they picked up, even to ask a mundane question like what she should have for a meal, her sister said.

Probably just a late night lonely booty call to a recent ex.

Instead of just calling the police? Or any one else to say "X is in the house trying to murder me".
This ain't the movies or a podcast.

Yeah, his theory makes no sense to me either. Why would she continually call her attacker while trying to hide from him?

I 20ish years ago, I seriously looked at the University of Idaho for grad school (wildlife studying elk). Went up there in 97 or 98 for a wildlife contest, Moscow was cool and the campus was nice. If I were a parent with a student up there, I would be equally concerned if my kid was at Washington State. Pullman is only about 8 miles from Moscow. We went over to see the grizzly research facility, and only took like 15 minutes to get there.

Boy, all the good genes really went in one direction in that family.

On a serious note though, why did it take the sister to get all that? Seems like the police would have been doing that first thing…

The more this drags out I'm going with a "mountain man" theory. Some guy came down out of the mountains, proficient hunting/knife skills, no cell phone, no nothing.

This is getting crazy. Absolutely no leads or anything. If the sister was able to get a neighbors ring camera to confirm an Uber dropped them off but nothing shows later in the night that lends to the theory that this was something planned out and.conducted by someone that knew what they were doing (NOT a crime of passion).

The FBI has assigned at least two SAs from the Behavioral Analysis Unit. That indicates they are working up a profile.

Her parents say Jack is innocent and no reason too doubt them.

What a really sad story this is.

Moscow Idaho has a population of slightly less than 26,000. Likely a pretty small police force, county authorities combined would still be a small force. And that sounds like the type of crime scene they have never seen before.

I have serious doubts this was a lone killer.

I'm not so sure. You have for students that are asleep. If they had alcohol earlier in the evening, they might be sleeping heavier than normal. If the person goes around room to room, quietly stabbing them, it's doubtful they would make much noise or even know what was going on fast enough to react.

I think it is very possible that it is one person, but we will see how it plays out. Just a horrible situation.

6 bedroom house. Three floors, including a walk-out basement. Each floor had two bedrooms. The roomates who were asleep were on the bottom floor (basement) and the two other floors were offset, meaning not directly above those bedrooms.

My bad if this has already been posted.

Kind of have to know how to sift through the typical Reddit BS, but there's a subreddit dedicated to the case: https://www.reddit.com/r/MoscowMurders/

They're in the picture with them from the afternoon, no telling where they were during the evening. The murders didn't take place till about three or four in the morning, we know two of the girls that were murdered we're at a food truck around 1:45 AM. It's possible they were just already in their rooms asleep. If you look at the picture from above they were in the very bottom floor that was not connected to the top two floors.

Idiot reporters. Nobody asked at presser if two surviving roommates were suspects nor did they ask if they lawyered up.

No more info was released.
