Excellent points. And I'll add...Ellis Wyatt said:I think you're conflating a couple of things.Quote:
A lot of people are saying she deserved it. Everyone knows she was an idiot to 1) go to Russia 2) bring drugs there. But I can't imagine applauding a 9 year prison sentence for that, which is clearly driven by her negative comments about the USA.
a. **** her because she claims to hate America and have been oppressed in America. She found out what oppression is and that America is paradise for her. People think the irony is delicious.
b. No one thinks her sentence is reasonable. They just don't really care because she FAFO.
Not sure what you're having a hard time understanding. People with such a negative view of America have not spent much time in the rest of the world.
People who hate America are not objective in any way. Some of us are thankful for where we were born and want to preserve it. Others vote democrat.
People ***** and moan about what America has become. Well, one of the reasons America has become what it is, is due to our increasingly lax attitudes about consequences & punishment. "It was only" in it's many variations has become the preamble to countless justifications for people doing what they want, not what laws allow.
So Russia isn't having anything to do with, "It was only". She did the crime, now she'll do the time. Is it harsh? Sure. But will she ever make the mistake again? Nope, not even if her life depended on it. Bet.
