This is only verifiable if the possessor grew/produced the drug themselves. If they were procured on the black market, it is almost guaranteed that someone was harmed along the supply chain between grower/producer and the end user.

State Department has been broken for decades but not because of Griner. Plenty of other Americans were held in foreign countries for much longer periods of time.

The contrast in living conditions must be shocking to her. She went from being a multimillionaire celebrity to living in a Russian penal colony.

She didn't want to live a life of privilege anyway.

I went on a cruise to Eastern Europe several years back and we spent 2 days in Russia. We were extremely cautious about what we took with us into the country and even more cautious to listen to and precisely follow the instructions of Russian officials.

Our waiter on the ship was from Serbia (or some other Eastern European country), and he told us he went ashore in Russia once and would never do so again because they hassled and often detained people like him.

Risk/reward, but know that Russia is not really a free country. It is nothing like being in America.

I personally think weed is roughly on par with alcohol in regards to recreational drug use. It can be abused and some people have serious problems with it and become behaviorally if not chemically addicted to it. For most people it is much more moderate.

I think the punishment is ridiculous relative to the severity of the crime, but that's Russia's choice. They are sovereign over their own territory and can make their own laws, and people who travel there are subject to them. I made damn sure when I traveled overseas that I was discreet and followed laws, and didn't do anything that would typically violate a law I might not know about.

A lot of people are saying she deserved it. Everyone knows she was an idiot to 1) go to Russia 2) bring drugs there. But I can't imagine applauding a 9 year prison sentence for that, which is clearly driven by her negative comments about the USA.

ESPN would turn into a bigger Trump bashing channel if he were still in office. First Take would spend an hour a day just talking about how Trump is racist and needs to be ousted

So because someone may have been harmed by someone, we should just punish whoever we can catch, whether they did anything wrong or not?
