If someone gets pulled over or searched and "possesses" marijuana (or even cocaine or somesuch), there is no reason to throw that person in jail. They haven't harmed anyone.
This is only verifiable if the possessor grew/produced the drug themselves. If they were procured on the black market, it is almost guaranteed that someone was harmed along the supply chain between grower/producer and the end user.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Wow. I'm not sure if I expected a reprieve here but this actually got worse for Griner. Russia can now fully disappear her.

SOP for travel, which we've always personally followed, is do not visit countries that are not fully reciprocal friendly to the USA. It's not worth it.

And don't ignorantly badmouth the USA when we are still the best country on the planet despite every intention by Democrats to destroy it.

Nine years in a penal colony for weed oil is appalling, but taking drugs to a country that's notoriously hard on drug offenders + that we're fighting a proxy war against is one of the dumbest ****ing decisions I've ever heard. This is the ultimate play stupid games win stupid prizes example.

State Department has been broken for decades but not because of Griner. Plenty of other Americans were held in foreign countries for much longer periods of time.

The contrast in living conditions must be shocking to her. She went from being a multimillionaire celebrity to living in a Russian penal colony.

She didn't want to live a life of privilege anyway.
...the Big 12 is now viewed as the fifth of the big BCS leagues by many recruits. (Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Mike Farrell; August 2013)

Already the weakest of the “Power Five” conferences, the league (Big 12) is hemorrhaging fans, wins, TV ratings and respect. (SA Express R. Bragg; Oct 12, 2016)

I went on a cruise to Eastern Europe several years back and we spent 2 days in Russia. We were extremely cautious about what we took with us into the country and even more cautious to listen to and precisely follow the instructions of Russian officials.

Our waiter on the ship was from Serbia (or some other Eastern European country), and he told us he went ashore in Russia once and would never do so again because they hassled and often detained people like him.

Risk/reward, but know that Russia is not really a free country. It is nothing like being in America.

I personally think it sucks and the punishment doesn't fit the crime but I'm also not stupid enough to enter Russia at any point...much less with drugs in tow.

As far as this thread and "celebrating" are you just pretending to not understand schadenfreude to virtue signal on the internet?

I personally think weed is roughly on par with alcohol in regards to recreational drug use. It can be abused and some people have serious problems with it and become behaviorally if not chemically addicted to it. For most people it is much more moderate.

I think the punishment is ridiculous relative to the severity of the crime, but that's Russia's choice. They are sovereign over their own territory and can make their own laws, and people who travel there are subject to them. I made damn sure when I traveled overseas that I was discreet and followed laws, and didn't do anything that would typically violate a law I might not know about.

Spitting on the sidewalk is victimless. In Singapore that used to get you publicly whipped with a cane. Ask Micheal Fay just how he feels about that.

It's their country and their laws. Follow them or else.

Now is it political theater? Sure.
Yeah no **** it's their country their rules. It's still wrong and insanely authoritarian.

Was Otto Warmbier stupid to take a propaganda poster from North Korea? Yes. Did he deserve to get sent to a work camp and killed for it? **** no. And if you say yes he did you're an authoritarian psychopath who should consider moving there.

Who do you think you're arguing with? I am sure we all agree that it's too far. Griner chose poorly and it hasn't worked out for her. That's how life works.

"Dindunuffin" is only a viable excuse for some people in America.

A lot of people are saying she deserved it. Everyone knows she was an idiot to 1) go to Russia 2) bring drugs there. But I can't imagine applauding a 9 year prison sentence for that, which is clearly driven by her negative comments about the USA.

Good grief. If I know Russia is a dangerous and totalitarian place with no individual rights and is hard on drug offenses and I still did it anyway and got caught, some might say I __________ it.

I just find it really gross with people celebrating the misery of others. I wouldn't wish a 9 year sentence in a Russian penal colony on my worst enemy.

I think you're conflating a couple of things.

a. **** her because she claims to hate America and have been oppressed in America. She found out what oppression is and that America is paradise for her. People think the irony is delicious.

b. No one thinks her sentence is reasonable. They just don't really care because she FAFO.

Not sure what you're having a hard time understanding. People with such a negative view of America have not spent much time in the rest of the world.

People who hate America are not objective in any way. Some of us are thankful for where we were born and want to preserve it. Others vote democrat.

Absolutely spot on. Stay the F out of those countries and obey the laws to the fullest of any foreign country you decide to enter.

I do as well, but can certainly understand schadenfreude when that person, a gay hermaphrodite multi-millionaire, calls her home country and everyone in it evil and racist despite the fact that it's the only country in the history of the world where someone like her can become not only insanely wealthy but also a celebrity.

If Trump were President, they would be calling him out weekly and demanding her return. Yet for Biden, they're silent. I guess they only care when it's a Republican President running for re-election.

This is Griner's biggest problem....a press that will bury her story as much as they can because it makes Sh*tpants Spongebrain look bad.

If Trump were President it would be flood the zone coverage until she was released...at which point the narrative would shift to it only happening because Putin is Trump's big buddy.

So because someone may have been harmed by someone, we should just punish whoever we can catch, whether they did anything wrong or not?

Just go up a few posts and read again. In many people's eyes, this is a comeuppance. Hopefully, Griner literally comes to Jesus and then realizes how much she has to be thankful for in America.
