I'll never understand why Elon fled the policies of California to be subjected the same policies in Austin and to be subject to the whims of liberals. He could have built in any of several outlying areas that are not part of Austin.

Now, the environmentalists want to team up with the City of Austin to strangle Elon. It's all so predictable.

That's why he built there.

Same reason they don't build factories in the RGV, just slightly less so. But you will never catch a Fortune 500 company saying it out loud

It's southeast corner of Austin city limits just to the east of Bergstrom.

Agree with Op, not sure why he would flee California to have to deal with Austin/Travis Co. Maybe has something to do with the power generation station less than a mile away and proximity to the airport.

Seems like it would have made more sense just to go little further down 71 to the Bastrop Co line. IMO. Or stay on the Williamson Co side off the toll to the north. Still great location for what gigaplant is doing.

If you know who to talk to in Austin/Travis and have ungodly amounts of money, they will roll over for you. Tavo Helmund was turning dirt on COTA before the virtual ink was dry on his permits.

Not sure what part of San Antonio you hangout in, but San Antonio is more family friendly and doesn't have homeless and hippies everywhere

They move to Austin so all their crazy leftist employees will move there for employment.

Austin is on track to be the next San Francisco. One giant garbage dump.

He's also in Pflugerville with the Boring Company. It's quickly turning into Austin with alot of folks moving in, but it's still more business friendly.

Dallas and Houston are black person corruption and idiocy.

Austin is white people of the same.

San Antonio is Hispanic people of the same.

That's it. That's my post.

In my experience, it seems like Austin is the only "cool" city in Texas from the perspective of people from large metro areas outside of Texas.

I agree it's dumb and Austin is massively overrated.

Businesses don't want to come to San Antonio because they're going to have to deal with corruption and red tape on par with Mexico.

They come to Austin because they get the progressive lip service but don't have to worry about finding their child's body in their trunk.

Imagine being naive enough to think Elon cares at all about the environment. Austin is slowly finding out that they got Musked.

Californians want something "similar" to Cali. As much as most here like to believe, Austin is still not San Fran, Seattle, or Portland.

Elon isnt some hard core right wing guy. He moved out of CA because of the state tax policies and the regs on businesses.

Austin has a mess of tech savvy folks - it is billd as the "Silcon Valley of Texas". Dell has a huge facilty there and a lot of tech type companies are there - so the talent pool is deep for the types of folks he needs for his industries. Plus Austin offered massive tax breaks and they were doing everything they could to woo him at the time.

They know he isnt going to pack up and leave now, so they are trying to change th rules. Probably wouldnt have happened had the twitter deal not happened and Elon suddenly got labeled as some ultra right wing conservative, which he is not. He is a capitalist, but thats it.

Technically it's just out of COA control. It's in Travis County jurisdiction, not the City of Austin.

The ETJ rules are a little more lax than the Full purpose rules. I work with the city's permit process often. We actually hire contractors that specialize in navigating it.

Austin may be run by loons but it is still in Texas as that's not bad for business.

Wait until you see the Samsung Fab they're starting on up in Taylor. They built a huge pad of housing trailers so they can keep contractors working on site 24/7. It's a huge block of area, seems like a square mile.
