There is some chance it might be over 90% of daily active users, which is the metric that matters to advertisers.

Very odd that the most popular tweets of all time were only liked by ~2% of daily active users.

Basically the theory is that most of the internet, especially on larger forums and social media sites is nothing but bots and fake accounts and that everything is manipulated. You can see this on Twitter, /pol/ at 4chan, Facebook, Reddit, etc.

Not exactly, from what I understand Cooke did send almost a thousand surveys to most of the climate scientists around the world but on the critical question of "are humans the number one cause of global warming" about two thirds marked the box for "not enough data available at this time."

Well Cooke didn't like that at all so he basically tossed around 700 responses and only focused on the third who marked either yes or no and from there, voila 97%.

But you are correct, both are bull****.

Maybe this was his plan all along. Make an offer, which requires that they open the books and records. Expose them for being frauds, kill the company.

Remember the Planter's peanuts fan poll way back. Texags and some other school just took it over with bots (uncertain the term existed, think we just called them "scripts"). A fan poll with two schools getting tens of millions of votes. No difference here, just higher stakes.

Anyone remember when the Twitter mob tried to take out Rush over his "****" comment?

He hired a cyber investigation firm to see who was behind it. Turned out to be 6 people controlling tens of thousands of BOTs.

Far more likely most of them are set up by the FBI and CIA at the behest of the democrat party.

It's a combination of corporate bots and government bots (both ours and foreign) that are all being used in conjunction to push an agenda.

You can make damn near anything with a well designed GPT-3 bot. I imagine the state run and corporate run bots are way better than this guy's and even then it still managed to fool the OP.

this supports what many of us have been saying: Twitter is not vital to anything. it really used by a miniscule portion of the population. the idea it should be considered the government because its so ubiquitous and necessary in our lives is a joke.

Dead Internet Theory is much more significant than just Twitter, it applies across the board on all social media and all major forums (Texags would be an exception mostly). It's one of the more terrifying /x/ conspiracy theories because it more or less means that much of the public discourse has been driven by AI controlled algorithms.

This could mean either total centralization by the elites or the crazier option where it's pure chaos and these algorithms have been feeding off of each other for years completely uncontrolled, which is why nothing makes sense at all anymore.

So if true advertisers may have some lawsuits coming

It is cancerous to mental health and general disposition as well. It has been a general net negative for humanity.

I think it's wishful thinking that a large percentage of accounts are bots or completely fake. I think maybe 5% is probably close to accurate, maybe even a bit high. I think a larger number are alt/sock accounts, etc. as well as accounts that people have just abandoned but Twitter has kept "active" to keep their numbers up.

I DO find it suspicious that they don't have a better grasp of their business however. I guess that comes from a business model that doesn't actually charge your users directly.

I disagree that the most popular tweets of all time be being liked by only ~2% of users is odd. Randomly pull 10,000 people into a room from every culture in the world and ask them to discuss pop culture and what they like. You likely won't have much consensus because there is so much variability in culture and taste. The most liked tweet of all time is about Chadwick Boseman's death, but users in Europe, Africa, China, India, etc probably aren't going to care like American users, and not even all American users at that. On the other hand, there's some South Korean pop group that has like a third of the top 25-30 tweets of all time, and I've never heard of them.

Interesting. And perhaps this is why the left flipped out when Musk made his move to buy Twitter. He is shining a light in their Pandora's Box and now the secrets - which maybe weren't so secret, just unprovable - are coming out.

As suspect as I have been about Musk over his solar initiatives and Tesla, the guy is single handedly tearing apart the status quo through SpaceEx and his purchase of Twitter, and he's doing it without having to be elected to anything or becoming beholden to anyone. Eccentric or not, the dude is a pure genius and he has the money to move mountains.
