In a statement, Reich cited inflation, product recalls, and supply chain shortages as why there is "an unprecedented amount of volatility for baby formula." And he believes that the shortages will continue in the near future.

"We expect to continue to see the baby formula category being dramatically affected by these conditions," Reich said.
"Baby formula stock, which has been one of the more affected categories so far in 2022, and one that will continue to demonstrate higher than average out-of-stock levels."
Meanwhile, some parents have expressed alarm on social media about the apparent lack of infant formula on shelves.

"If the [mainstream media] can talk about the toilet paper shortage ever [sic] hour, they should be talking about the baby formula shortage at least," Danielle Miller, a mother, wrote on Twitter last week.
"We ended [up] finding the Amazon brand online but not everyone is so lucky to be able to feed that. Please share. This is every store!"
"The baby formula shortage is unreal!" GET THESE BABIES SOME FOOD!" another mother wrote on Twitter along with a photo of empty shelves, adding that "it's a crisis all over."
Another parent, Irene Anhoeck of San Francisco, told local media that "we've noticed it being difficult to find maybe a couple months agotwo, three months agoand then just recently we can't find it." She added, "We've tried all the local Targets. We checked Costco, Costco online, Walgreens, Long's. Can't find it anywhere."

Hmmmm....if only there was a natural way to feed mammal babies.

Not every woman can breast feed effectively. Some kids don't want to latch. It's legitimately painful for some women to pump. Mom might be put on meds that keep her from breastfeeding. There's a whole host of legitimate reasons why a baby might be formula fed.

Not every woman nor child has the ability to breast feed. I understand your point, but it isn't a black or white thing.

Not every mom can breastfeed like has been said already.

I don't even have kids and I know this. I've see many of my friends babies have a hard time latching on.

And correct me if I'm wrong sometimes toddlers drink baby formula as well which if you have a baby too then it's hard.

Chill out.

Was walking through Walmart and noticed the emptied shelves for formula.

Wow!

And my son needed a special kind of top of breastfeeding.

Well, if they are adopted instead of aborted or the milk never comes in, it keeps them alive.

Substitute goods?

Also, I recall centers that would have other moms donate breast milk. Is that still thing?

How on earth did the human population survive until formula was created?

Yes, some have issues. That's not the norm. It's the exception.

Raising a human requires sacrifice. A sacrifice many don't want to have to deal with these days. Thus the vigorous debate about killing a human before it is born because "muh body muh choice"

Pothole Pete needs to create a PSA for those women that have issues getting their kids to latch.

While I do agree, the vast majority are females who choose not to breastfeed.

Both of our kids had a milk protein allergy which caused extreme discomfort, pain, and excessive diarrhea as infants. It wasn't a lactose intolerance, it was a protein found in milk, grain, and other items that caused the reactions. If my wife consumed any items with this protein it would stay in her system for about 2 weeks, which would affect the milk the babies were drinking. We had to use expensive formulas instead of your standard enfamil or similac.

All that to say, I had never heard of such a condition before having kids of my own and I just assumed babies were breast fed until they ate solid foods. Being a parent teaches you things.

Infant mortality is much lower today because of better medicine and... Formula.

Probably none since breastfeeding and milk production burns a **** ton of calories and helps drop pregnancy weight, but you go ahead and keep trying to die on this hill...

I know of several moms that chose not to breastfeed due to not wanting to do it and it allowed the dad to get up at night also and feed. I also understand there are many legitimate reasons moms don't and there is no shame.

Stop while you're behind. Can tell you aren't a parent as you have no idea what you are talking about.

And why is it even an argument? There's currently a huge demand for baby formula and also a huge shortage. Your extremely weird desire to have every woman solely breast feed does not change that.

It's very easy to tell who is ignorant on the subject or who had no issues postpartum. I'm happy for you if you had no issues, but just not the case for many of us.

My wife has issues with how much milk she makes and our daughter has some digestion issues. Thankfully, we only supplement with formula for 1/3 of the meals now at this point. We go through about a can a month at our pace and thankful it's there.

We buy one any chance we happen to find it in the DFW area while at a store. We see a can once every 10 visits or so to the store.

Twin sons born premature in Jan spending ~6 weeks in NICU. Drs told us to use a particular premature formula for 2 feedings a day for the next year. Still using Mom's milk the rest of the time but getting pretty nervous about this shortage. Luckily we found a bunch at a local Walgreens yesterday that should last us a few months. Really hoping it gets better soon.

My daughter had that too. My wife and I went dairy-free for a year so she could continue to breast-feed (actually pump; our daughter was 10 weeks premature and was never able to latch; must have been some good stuff in that breast milk though, because by the time she was 4 months old we were calling her Jabba the Baby).

I am amazed at the work women put in to nurse. My wife was teaching at the time, and had to lock herself into the closet in her classroom during her planning period and lunch so she could pump. Whenever we had to do a night feeding, I got up to actually give the bottle and my wife would pump then, too.

Going dairy-free sucked gonads.
