CNN showing poll 70% of Americans didn't want abortion overturned trying to argue it will create enthusiasm for democrats. Doubt it, of that 70% about 40% probably don't consider it a major issue.

They understand their voters are idiots who don't know how their governments work and don't get that an election for national legislature has very little to no immediate impact on the Supreme Court

Couple of thoughts on all of this:

1. Abortion should always have remained a state right...it never should have been a federal issue...let the states decide what they will allow...

2. The clerk who leaked should be fired and the Justice they clerk for should be summarily impeached...I don't care who it is...

Get enough Democrats in Congress and they can add 6 communists to the Court if they want.

Let us not forget that this is the way stuff like this should work. If not clearly enumerated in the Constitution it should go back to the states to decide. If the commies in California want to have abortion for everyone at any time so be it, if the good folks from Oklahoma want to ban it outright so be it. That is the way this country is supposed to work. A win for the framers if this holds up.

AND this decision will set precedent to decide the same about gay marriage and the like.

This. Sadly.

This will energize legions of women who were likely feeling apathetic and were going to sit the next election or two out. When the "Texas Taliban" (lol) announced you only had six weeks to kill your child, I could not believe some of the "conservative Christian" women on my feed that came out shrieking.

This is the right move, but worries it is going to backfire in terms of political momentum we had going.
It wouldn't if republicans were smart, but they're weak.

They should campaign and vilify the CO law that makes it legal to kill a baby in the birth canal during delivery. Like progressives always do, they went to far and it became a losing issue because some dems and majority of indies are repulsed by that thought.

The Rubicon had already been crossed but this makes it all our war and that's what we needed. Both sides have no choice to go all in now.

BTW, one other thing that is being lost in this is this destroys the "uniparty" narrative. Abortion is the one issue that is truly Dem vs GOP with no more than a handful of elected officials on either side that don't vote along party lines. It will also open up the box of what is the limits of abortion and that's not a good fight for the Dems. The Dem leadership is all in on abortion up until birth and that is not a popular opinion, maybe 20% of the country agrees with it. Maybe. GOP is a lot more likely to compromise on the Big 3 (Life of the Mother, Rape, Incest) and maybe a few other exceptions in most areas.

You could also definitely see people move over this issue to Red or Blue states and that also favors the GOP, it makes blue states DARK Blue but it will make Red States DARK Red and I would bet more Purple turn Red.

The key is the GOP needs to go all in because there is no turning back now. The Dems sure as hell won't.

As it should have been. I had a talk with my son tonight and explained the simple construct of the Constitution and how this applied. He agreed that it made sense. So simple a 14 year old can understand it, but folks with college degrees cannot.

Edit: He just came in and told me the Astros won and said "Oh you were talking about the 10th Amendment." I said go to sleep and then smiled that he knew one of the most important ones!
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

Which would likely not stand up to a legal challenge either as the Court is likely to say it is a state issue.

Exactly, same for many, many things over the past 100 years.

If the Democrats want to make abortion the law of the land, they should do it the correct way and amend the Constitution.

While I doubt that will happen, it would be interesting if it was the straw that led to a second civil war. Which would mean in both cases, the Democrats were on the wrong side of history - enslaving black people in the first civil war, and killing babies in the second.

Right. But question is, did Reps just shoot their wad for this when they were gaining so much political capital for midterms? This could keep a lot of R votes home and D votes that don't usually show up, to show up.

What good is political capital if you're not willing to trade it to stop the wholesale slaughter of infants?
Yeah, I don't really care about the issue that much. Lot more poor kids and trouble kids if it was banned.

I want to save political capital for things that will actually make the country better. Ending federal dept of Education. Fed Reserve. Fed income tax.
Sickening. You should spend some time contemplating what's important in LIFE.

A better country, not more poor kids with parents who don't want them.
I am okay with the ruling as long the mom signs an affidavit stating "due to constraints imposed on me by the state of XXXXXX I could not abort my unwanted child. As such should the child be convicted of a felony as a child or adult all resources used during and after the conviction will be immediatly to reimbursed by the state of XXXXX to the state in which the felony occurred."

Why should a state allowing abortion be saddled with the unwanted children of states that don't allow abortion.
