Also, This is a GIFT to the Dems.
It will energize their base and the media like NOTHING else, not even Trump running.
Will readily be used to distract attention away from ALL of Joe's economic, politic and international failures.
It'll galvanize both sides.
But the liberals 10x more. Say what you want about roe getting overturned, this is going to be horrible for republicans in 2022. The timing of this could not be much worse.
Sorry I just don't see it if you spend just a moment of reflection. A few thoughts on how these things work:
For the Dems this will absolutely drive the single female vote for them and part of the Suburban Mom vote. They will also get some hard core liberal men. That's about it though and those are all groups they already have. Abortion is a wedge issue and people that vote on abortion as their sole issue are locked up on both sides. Most of those votes are also women in very blue areas, mainly urban. Not a lot that are in swing districts. There is also a potential backlash in reverse when they realize this doesn't affect anything for most of them. If you are a single woman in NYC or California nothing changes and for YEARS organizations like PP have said that overturning Roe have been pushing craziness on them. My wife got a few of those mailers by mistake a few times and they had stuff about how all abortion would be illegal and how even birth control would be banned. When they realize that instead it will just be up to the states I think a lot of those women will be indifferent, they can easily get abortions if they want realistically.
For the GOP it's a huge boon in a different way. You can say they were fired up but this is a different level for the base. They have been talking about overturning Roe my entire life (it happened when I was 2) and there is a segment of conservative Christian voters that had given up and assumed it would never happen, that the GOP would never be able to deliver. They just did. A lot of those folks were already fired up because of woke culture and of course the economy but Roe was the mountain that they didn't think they would see climbed. It's a huge statement as well that the country can be won back and that we are not lost morally. It's just hard to overstate how much it affects a lot of people that had given up on the GOP.
The other thing is November is still a long way off and this is still an issue that really only is big to a small portion of the voting base. The fact that it is going to now be a state issue also shifts that dynamic to the states.
It will be fascinating to watch, no one really knows.
