Not an LOL matter; lithium ion battery fires and fire trucks/stations etc.

Quote:

First things first, for a shiny new fire station like San Diego's, make sure it has a fire alarm system.
Especially if it has *check notes* an electric fire truck or emergency vehicle anything.
Quote:

A new fire station in Germany that was destroyed in a fire, causing millions of euros in damage, did not have a fire alarm system.

The fire broke out early Wednesday morning at the Stadtallendorf fire station in Hesse and destroyed the equipment hall and almost a dozen emergency vehicles, according to local media.
Initial estimates put the damage at between 20 million and 24 million. No one was injured.
Local officials told the German news agency dpa that no fire alarm system was installed in the building because experts had considered it not necessary much to the astonishment of many observers now that the station has burned down.
Because...well...

Quote:

...The fire broke out on an emergency vehicle belonging to the fire department, which contained lithium-ion batteries and an external power connection.

Quote:

This year the number of deaths is down, thank God, but not the number of fires. The difference is where people are storing those bikes.
For once, they are listening to warnings.
Quote:

E-bike battery fires are continuing at an alarming rate in New York, but there's a positive twist: The number of people dying has plummeted, the FDNY says.
The reason? People seem to be heeding warnings to keep e-bike batteries outside, where fires are less deadly.
Fires caused by exploding lithium-ion batteries from e-bikes and other micromobility devices used by meal delivery workers are the city's biggest, and newest, fire threat. Last year, 28 people died from such blazes, leading to the deadliest year for fires in the city in two decades.
The number of battery fires hasn't abated. As of Thursday, there were 134 so far this year, which is about the same as last year at this time, according to the FDNY. But the big difference is with fatalities from those fires: 13 at this point last year, and just one so far this year.
Injuries have also dropped dramatically, from 92 to 55.

Again, I hope readers with E-bikes and BEV's take note and store these vehicles outside of their dwellings/homes/apartments. No reason to take the risks.

Nice,

I have a reservation and will be getting another Tesla next year. For our family, it is the best car bar none and its not even close. My 16 yo started driving and got her a used Bolt because I know she will crash it. She loves an EV too because she just drives it fully charged and never worries about gas.

I am considering an X vs Cybertruck. I will definitely wrap the Cyber truck if I get one.

BTW, the cybertruck is now the best selling EV truck outselling Rivian/Ford

I have a Lightning and have had it for two years. No problems. I mentioned to my wife I was considering getting a Tesla when the Acura has run its course. She said two EVs is too much. Would you go all EV? She said to look at plug in hybrids as a choice.

Depends on your situation. All EV would severely limit our lives. We still need an ICE truck for actual truck things.

My dad has a vehicle with manual steering. 1947 Willys. Drives it in Lakehills every so often just to make sure it's still running.

Don't go too fast though. That steering is LOOOOOOOOSE...

To be safe, don't store gasoline vehicles in buildings either. You can never be too safe according to some posters.

Yep. Consider when your 16 year old goes to college in a few years. My kid is a senior at A&M which is about 200 miles away for us. Sure, technically in range one way for most EVs, but mix in driving down doing 80-85mph while cranking the AC because it's 90 degrees out, then not having convenient charging when you get there. Nowhere she has lived had charging capability, and we are always running around while there. At times we've done down and back in one day. All of that gets a lot more complicated and inconvenient. It always seemed to me that most households are set up where one EV and one gas powered probably fit most scenarios and leave the most flexibility

Politico; GOP candidates press Dems on EV boondoggles/mandates;

Quote:

…a recent poll by the University of Chicago's Energy Policy Institute and the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that a majority of Americans do not support EV subsidies.
A Michigan poll this summer found that 55 percent of voters disapproved of Biden-Harris efforts to push EV adoption. Just 40 percent approved.

Attacks nationwide

GOP candidates have been framing EVs as a win for China, which controls much of the worldwide market for critical minerals used in their manufacture. Democrats say the Inflation Reduction Act, their 2022 climate law, is aimed at reducing China's influence.
Quote:

Michigan Republican Rep. John James sought to tie his Democratic opponentCarl Marlinga to a gas car ban with an ad alongside the National Republican Congressional Committee. And Republican Paul Hudson criticized his opponent, Democratic Rep. Hillary Scholten, for not voting to overturn the tailpipe rule.

Beyond Michigan, Austin Theriault, the Republican challenger to Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), declared in an ad that he would "stop Biden's electric vehicle mandate." At a recent debate, Theriault blamed the IRA, which Golden voted for, for proposed EV mandates in states like Maine.

"How can you say you oppose EV mandates when there's literally billions of dollars look it up, I promise you … there's billions of dollars in EV tax credits, there's billions of dollars in build-out for infrastructure," Theriault said. "We don't want them in Maine. We don't want them."
Quote:

"President Biden is banning most cars, putting our freedom to choose what to drive in the rearview mirror. And Sen. Sherrod Brown couldn't stop him," says a voice-over in one Ohio ad.

"Vice President Kamala Harris wanted to end sales of all new gas-powered vehicles by 2035, taking away our choices," says an ad in Pennsylvania, which asks viewers to "call Sen. Bob Casey, tell him to stop the Biden-Harris car ban."

"These policies will have tremendous, economywide consequences and impact every American driver, taxpayer and electricity user," AFPM spokesperson Ericka Perryman said.
This is again great to see, though this article provides plenty of CCP-Dem talking points in kind. The Biden Cafe rules, and California mandates about when all cars have to be zero emissions etc, need to be struck down and even make Democrats run away from them.

End of the Road for EVs

End of the road for electric cars: Shocking chart reveals how EV sales have SLUMPED around the world - with Volkswagen the latest carmarker forced to close its factories as a result

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been touted as an environmentally-friendly solution to the climate crisis, giving passengers a smooth, emissions-free ride.

But it seems the electric revolution deemed essential to curb carbon emissions is running out of road.

Despite growing steam long-term, Elon Musk's Tesla saw quarterly EV sales fall from a peak of 484,500 in Q4 2023 to just 386,800 in the first quarter of 2024.

Meanwhile, Chinese car manufacturer BYD the world's largest seller of electric vehicles saw global EV sales crash earlier this year.

In the first quarter of this year, it sold just over 300,000 EVs dramatically down from 526,000 in the final quarter of last year.

Similarly, German carmaker Volkswagen sold 239,500 EVs in Q4 2023, but only 136,400 the following quarter, although sales recovered to 180,800 in Q2 this year.

It comes as Volkswagen has been forced to close three of its factories and slash jobs, partly due to a slower-than-expected transition to electric vehicles.

Pretty devastating report about current trends.
Trump will fix it.

Electric vehicle sales hit a new record in the U.S. in Q3, driven by attractive lease deals, financing offers and a growing appetite for affordable models among American car buyers. Despite all the political noise around EVs and negative headlines in financial papers, automakers are having a moment selling their battery-powered cars.

According to car trading and market insights firm Cox Automotive, automakers sold an estimated 346,309 EVs in the third quarter, a 5% increase from the second quarter. EVs accounted for 8.9% of the total auto salesthe highest ever on recordmarking an increase from 7.8% during the same period last year.

This video claims that the Biden Admin's proposed rule against Chinese car sales in the U.S. would effect both GM and Ford. Also squawking this morning is Swedish mfg Polestar which is worried that because their stock is majority owned by China, they will not be able to sell the EV's now being produced in South Carolina in the U.S.

Those are great numbers to see.

I wonder how much of the increase is because of Trump supporters buying the ugliest f*king vehicle ever made, the Tesla truck or other Tesla vehicles thanks to Elon openly supporting Trump.

In less than a year, the top selling EV truck is the Cybertruck AND Tesla was profitable on selling the CT.

Every US car maker loses money on every EV they make and in less than a year lost their lead in the EV truck.

We have 2 EVs in our house and 1 ICE. We are likely going all EV next year. Range and charging to our family has essentially become a non issue.

We drive to Dallas, Houston, SA all the time. We at most spend 10 minutes charging which is a bathroom break at bucees. Tesla made an genius move putting Superchargers at most Buccees.

I don't race quarter miles in my rivian. I'm sure those fast loud cars would over take me eventually. ...but when a corvette pulled up to me at a light the other day and the driver started revving his engine, I had no problem blowing that guy away off the line in my pickup truck. ...just like the CT driver did to the lambo above. It's fun.

Cybertruck Tri Motor is 0-60 in 2.6 seconds
Most Lamborghinis are 0-60 in 2.8-3.1 seconds

Most people aren't racing over 100 mph, it's usually at lights that might get up to 80-90 mph on completely empty roads or 60-70 mph on more crowded roads where you're at the front of the line.

0-60 is simply a measure of traction in todays HP wars. They're both AWD, but the Lamborghini driver fumbled the shift and spun on launch. Weight, rotating mass, and most importantly aerodynamics give the Lamborghini a huge advantage past the 0-60 part of the race which is about all we saw here. From a Highway roll, it wouldn't be a contest.
