Nobody wants to play musical chairs and be stuck with a $20,000 battery replacement out of warranty.
Maintenance on EV is low compared to ICE and battery advancements will 1) make them go father, 2) make them last longer and 3) cost less money.
You can argue easily they aren't there yet, but they aren't far off. I'm sure there were a lot of people who said they would never give up a corded land line phone for a cell phone, yet here we are.
When the iPhone first came out there were nay sayers about it, just like the one's making an issue about EV's. The anti iphone people used the fact that the screens easily cracked as something to latch on to justify their complaints.
Everything new will always someone against it. If he product is good enough, they won't matter because it'll continue until it's commonplace.
I see EVs being commplace amongst the upper middle class and higher for years to come, with hybrids gaining more and more traction with each passing year.
