You can say that but the renter was in tears trying to find a charger that worked. Call people stupid or idiots but it's their experience with them that matters. If you work wish people who don't get technology you should be able to see the correlation.

We get that. But you should know better in regards to how it would apply to you as a potential owner.
Outside of personal use, if a service company is going to use this in Texas their drivers will be pissed off. If you go back to why we rented the Tesla, it was to test our customers potential experience using a fleet card at a public charging station. Nightmare. Sounds like an easy business decision to cut your fuel bill but not realistic unless you barely drive.

We have a company near me that has gone almost all electric and the owner is pleased with the decision but the key is he installed level 2 chargers on site where the vehicles are plugged in overnight (and when they come back in the middle of the day) so they start each day ready to go for the full day.

Relying on public chargers would be a big mistake especially when including the salary being paid to drivers while they get charged.

Sounds like a reasonable regulation/response

Lets not forget that Mercedes fire destroyed 140 card and "left 1,600 households without electricity and water for a week and triggered public panic," devastating the building and annihilating the 3x damage multiplier
I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

A very logical way to advertise to metroplex cybertruck fans. Maybe automate expelling the laundry once the final spin cycle is over to air dry in the bed while stuck in traffic on the tollway on the way home in rush hour in the summer. Get home and just fold laundry.

  • Nearly 50% of U.S. dealerships show zero interest for selling electric vehicles, study finds.
  • Dealership enthusiasm for EVs is particularly low in southern states, and even in California.
  • Even dealers in colder states worry about winter range issues, adding to their disinterest in EVs.

Despite automakers easing back on their EV push in the face of a slowdown in demand, car buyers have a greater choice of electric cars than ever before, and that choice is only going to grow over the next few years. But dealers are less than ecstatic at the prospect of selling all those new EVs, a new survey reveals.

An investigation into the attitudes of 250 big-shot dealerships across the country by CDK Global found that 49 percent of their sales teams weren't excited at all about selling EVs. And that's a national average figure. Dealers in some regions, such as the south, showed almost no interest in trying to move electrified metal.

Only 12 percent of dealers in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky said their sales teams were either moderately or very excited to sell EVs. But some northern dealers also appeared uninterested, and even in the Pacific region, which includes California, only 10 percent said they were very excited.

A Canadian tourist was visiting Oakland recently when he had to talk someone out of taking his Tesla from a hotel parking lot.

This was no thief. It was the Oakland Police Department. Turns out, the Tesla may have witnessed a homicide.

In Oakland and beyond, police called to crime scenes are increasingly looking for more than shell casings and fingerprints. They're scanning for Teslas parked nearby, hoping their unique outward-facing cameras captured key evidence. And, the Chronicle has found, they're even resorting to obtaining warrants to tow the cars to ensure they don't lose the video.

How it's going: good article.

https://www.theverge.com/2024/9/1/24232206/ev-sales-slow-hybrid-phev-charging-ford-tesla

Quote:

Let's get one thing out of the way: contrary to what you may have heard, electric vehicle sales are up.

I know, recent headlines suggest otherwise. Tesla sales are down. Ford is scaling back its EV rollout. General Motors is delaying an electric truck and holding back on investments in EV battery mining. And Hertz is off-loading EVs as its stock price struggles. Automakers across the board are losing millions - some are losing billions - as customer demand appears to have flatlined after an initial burst of excitement. The vibe, as they say, is grim.

And yet, sales are still growing. JD Power is projecting that 1.2 million EVs will be sold in the US by the end of 2024, an increase over the 1 million sold last year. That's 9 percent of total vehicles sold, which has been revised down from a previous prediction of 12 percent.
…
So, what's going on? As automakers continue to refine their strategies, offering a more varied mix of vehicles, including hybrids and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), things are just getting a lot less predictable. A massive spike in leasing could lead to future EV conversions. Meanwhile, charging remains a pretty massive sticking point for a lot of consumers, who are unwilling to drop so much money on a new car if they don't feel comfortable about their ability to keep it properly charged.

Overall, an additional 35,000 battery-electric vehicles were sold in the first seven months of 2024 as compared to last year, JD Power says. That includes hybrids and PHEVs, which I think gets at the root of the problem. Those who were expecting an even swap - battery-electric for internal combustion - didn't anticipate the popularity of hybrids in the market. If anything, hybrids are cannibalizing EV sales, giving the pure-battery electric vehicles more competition than anticipated. But in retrospect, it makes sense. What better response to "range anxiety" than a vehicle that, in a sense, operates as an electric vehicle until the battery runs out, and then switches over to gas?
Trump will fix it.

"The lithium-ion batteries of electric vehicles are highly resistant to conventional firefighting methods i.e. pouring some water on a blaze to cool and suffocate it because the integrated components of a battery cell contain not just fuel in the form of the electrolyte, but also an integrated heat source and a source of oxygen. (These three factors are generally known as "the fire triangle.") As such, once a burn begins, it requires substantially greater efforts to starve it of heat or air."

An ICE fire has never presented this problem before.

I just read that Lucid's 2025 Grand Touring model went 523 miles on one charge. That'll get someone from Dallas to San Antonio or Houston to Brownsville with plenty of juice to spare. And it's only going to get better.

Maintenance on EV is low compared to ICE and battery advancements will 1) make them go father, 2) make them last longer and 3) cost less money.

You can argue easily they aren't there yet, but they aren't far off. I'm sure there were a lot of people who said they would never give up a corded land line phone for a cell phone, yet here we are.

When the iPhone first came out there were nay sayers about it, just like the one's making an issue about EV's. The anti iphone people used the fact that the screens easily cracked as something to latch on to justify their complaints.

Everything new will always someone against it. If he product is good enough, they won't matter because it'll continue until it's commonplace.

I see EVs being commplace amongst the upper middle class and higher for years to come, with hybrids gaining more and more traction with each passing year.
