The most popular car in the US is the Tesla Model Y. The most popular truck/vehicle is the F-150.
A close second.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g39628015/best-selling-cars-2022/

The Camry is above the Tesla.

Quote:

Although SUVs have largely taken over this list, the Toyota Camry remains the bestselling vehicle that's neither an SUV nor a pickup truck. The Camry dropped by 6 percent but still beat out many SUVs and eclipsed the next best passenger car, the Corolla, by a significant margin.

Outside of trucks/SUV though in California it's popular.

Currently a happy listless vessel and deplorable. #FDEMS TRUMP 2024.

I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

Curious to see how the Texas law would work. Makes sense to make drivers pay their fair share, but could get complicated. I drive a hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee, so still purchase gasoline from time to time. But with my commute, I typically only fill up with gas maybe once every two months; as a full charge generally keeps me fully battery-operated for two days, and I just plug in at night.

Also, should more fuel-efficient vehicles pay a fee, given that they're ultimately paying less in gasoline taxes, and therefore contributing less to road construction and maintenance?

Again, seems fair to look at drivers' changing contributions to the funds that support the roads everyone uses. Not sure how to address comprehensively.

BMWs suck so I'm not surprised. That doesn't mean ice vehicles should not be purchased. It just means you bought a **** brand and should have done your homework
Yeah BMWs do suck. Fooled me twice but never a 3rd time. In the olden days, their performance made up for the maintenance issues but no more. Many cars now have similar performance without all of the issues.

Lets say you are a buyer of a new SUV and take away all of the subjectivity such as looks, Ice vs EV, politics etc. Sticking just to facts which the majority of Americans care about.

Car 1
$50,490 sticker AWD Version
425 HP, 475Lb Torque
More standard features such as Heated stearing, sunroof, wireless charging, tech is cutting edge.
Cargo Space 76.2 CuFt 2nd row folded, 34.3 Cubif Feet
3500lb towing
0-60 4.8 sec
39.8 Turning Radius
Top speed 135mph

Car 2
$52,935 Sticker AWD version
275HP, 317 LB Torque
46.2 CuFt 2nd row folded, 29.6 Cuft
3500lb towing
0-60 7.2 sec
38.8 ft turning radius
top speed 124mph

Car 1 is a Tesla before the 7500 Tax credit which the majority of Americans would be eligible for and more so those buying a new car in the 50k range. Car 2 is a popular/reliable Lexus RX 350 where currently you have a high chance of getting price gouged. Looking at both, the performance and practical space/storage, is not even comparable. Anyone who drives the vast majority of their miles in the city would be doing themselves a disservice for not looking at a Tesla.

Tesla has made the buying experience AND service especially in a large city so easy. I purchased the car on my phone, no haggling price. I paid via bank transfer. I picked a delivery date/time. I show up, they point to where my car is, my App opens up the car, I drive off. Took me 5 minutes to drive off the lot. I wanted to add a Hitch. I put in a service request on my app, I pick a date, they tell me its a mobile service. They came, put on my hitch in 1 hr, and left. Service with Tesla in Austin is a pleasant experience, car dealerships tend to be all day nightmares.

Legacy better get their act together because how they operate feels like having a flip phone.

Well you figure $200 already goes against what you say you're saving in gas money. Now that the government's nose is under the tent it will surely want more in the years ahead.

The same government that just handed out $7,500 in tax credits for EV's? And I saved $2,957 not buying gas last year. $200 is nothing.

And since new buyers have to pay for two years up front, they'll pony up an additional $400 right away. Depending on price of gas and amount a person drives this could mean having to own the EV a few months before the buyer "breaks even" with what they would have paid for a less expensive ICE vehicle.

I am happy and proponent of EV drivers paying some type of road fee. $200/yr seems a small price to pay when I am saving $3k/yr on gas/maintenance.

Exactly. $200 is peanuts when you aren't paying for gas or maintenance. I think an oil change is about $100 now.

Ford discontinuing the Escape, Edge, and Transit to make way for more EVs. All of the automakers appear to be beyond the point of no return now with so much already invested into EV development.

https://www.cbtnews.com/ford-discontinues-three-gas-vehicles-to-make-room-for-its-new-ev-lineup/

Quote:

As Ford prepares to launch its next-generation EV portfolio, the automaker is discontinuing its Escape, Edge, and Transit gas-powered vehicles.

Despite some setbacks in its EV rollout, Ford is moving forward with developing its second-generation cars.
CEO Jim Farley announced in February that the carmaker was creating an internal EV platform for its upcoming line of EVs. The new EV architecture will support an entirely new full-size electric truck and three-row SUV.

Project T3, which stands for "Trust The Truck," honors the team developing the electric truck for the digital age. It's a truck that can tow, haul, export power, and introduce new ideas. Farley described a new three-row electric SUV with a 350-mile range and a roomy interior during Ford's Capital Market Day.
Farley says the new EV will resemble "the Millennium Falcon with a back porch attached." It will be constructed at Ford's brand-new BlueOval City complex in Tennessee, which is about six square miles in size.

Meanwhile, Ford is in the process of turning its Oakville assembly facility in Ontario, Canada, into a center for the production of EVs and battery packs. The complex will mark Ford's first high-volume plant makeover in North America once it is finished. To streamline production, the business intends to ship battery cells and arrays from the BlueOval City hub to the expanded facility.

Additionally, the BlueOval brand is making room for a new generation of EVs, so it's time for the gas-powered Ford Escape, Edge, and Transit Connect to fade out.

The revelation comes after the final Ford Fiesta left the factory last month. Ford stopped making the Fiesta to create a place for manufacturing the new electric Explorer at its Cologne, Germany, facility.
