I had a Model S 2012-2018 and loved it. I got rid of it because I wanted a convertible sports car. I have no issues buying another electric if someone puts out a convertible sports car for 100k or less. Of course I would never want to be restricted to only electric as they suck for road trips.

Yeah, because I am sure you are going to have a tough time convincing all the Ford Focus owners of the world to give up their cars for a cheaper alternative. It's easy to laugh at when it is really inconvinient for you (i.e. rural living or long regular commutes), but a lot of people live in urban environments that use their cars in 5 mi increments and pay $200+ a month just to park.

Sure, amigo, whatever you say. There's no government manipulation/involvement at all with the EV market. I am sure this little $2+ billion handout to the Koreans/Obamamotors is the first intrusion, despite anything I have read for the past 15 years.

The good news is that the global coal industry has been able to respond to the demand, so far. Especially China, where all of these battery materials are refined essentially via coal power.



All hail the EV market, capitalism wins! The wave of the future since 1890, as all sophisticated people have known. Some of the 100+ year old marketing stuff even looks like the same sort of drivers as Tesla's today on the DNT.

I follow this thread because I am a hybrid owner in a winter climate four months of the year. Cold requires a lot of energy: defrosting, heating the passenger compartment at a time when batteries alone are not at their most efficient. Time and time again we re-visit the same facts: if you live in a temperate climate in an urban area with short commutes and dependable infrastructure, like the Metroplex or Houston, EVs (although maybe not all American EVs) are a great for you. If you live in a box shaped western state with long highway drives between towns with some snow/blizzards thrown in, you MUST have an internal combustion engine to survive because neither battery technology nor the electrical grid are sufficiently robust to support your travels.

In general BEV's are less reliable than ICE alternatives.

The newest Electrify America DC chargers in Colorado had issues at around 0 degF and below. Showed as working in the app, but failed to initiate the charging after being plugged into the vehicle. The EVgo and Chargepoint chargers still worked, and the Tesla superchargers worked. More detailed info in Out of Spec Review video

BMW added a fake engine noise that's pleasing but can be turned off if you don't like it.
It's louder in the 600 hp Sport Mode.
For most of the time I've been using the 500 hp regular mode for wintery mix.
The torque is instant but it's so smooth it's like missing some of the element of danger like when you let an HI Po ICE car go.
No burnouts but it does have Launch Control.
Step on the Brakes hard, step on the Accelerator then let the Brake go

I still have my Jeep SRT that's now a Procharger forged 426 with 600 hp as my other and winter car.

I bought the BMW because it's available now and has been in production since 2021.
I didn't want to wait.
I can always trade it for another EV SUV in the future when more models are available from other Legacy Manufacturers.
The range goes from 300 miles or so at 72+F to 220 miles at 32 F.on a fully charged battery.
The battery charges at about 25 mph at 72F 20 at 32F on a Level 2 charger.
I can set it to charge after 7 pm for lower kw/h rates.
So far the cost has been about half of what it cost to fuel the Hellcat Trackhawk.

I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

So just to make sure I'm doing my math right. You get 300 miles at room temperature, and you re-charge at 25 mph. 300/25 is 12. It takes you 12 hours to recharge? Hope you can telecommute in winter time. What a complete waste of money for something that is worse for the environment than gasoline powered cars.

I agree that the front grille is Fugly and looks like a fat Couter

Yes it's 12 hrs to fully charge the battery but BMW doesn't recommend going below 10 miles
I just plug it in after 7 pm when it's down to 100 miles or less to bring it back up to 220.
It turns off the charger when it's fully charged.
It's like charging up my cell phone.
For winter if you press the transponder button down 3 times it warms up the car for 20 minutes.
They call it pre conditioning and you can schedule it if you like.
I'm older with some back issues and have less time to waste
waiting for things than college students.
I bought the Fugly Couter now because it's an available EV SUV like the Jeeps
with 800 ft/lb of torque to missile down the road.
I paid 125k by check.
Money is not an issue as I'm a 1%er.
It's a Toy for me
Maybe I'll do something like this if I keep it longer than a year.
