These are only used for long distance driving. Local drivers will have a charger in their garage.

If you are coming up north on 35E from Waxahachie and are low, you are effed. Plus, enjoy that prolonged charge in the heart of the Dallas crime district

You would have already charged in Italy or Abbott if taking 35 and not needed to stop in that area. There is also an new 250kw charger going in Red Oak this year.

EVs definitely aren't for everyone, there are still dolts who run out of gas…

Stick to lithium mine fear mongering.

This is far from convenient. You would have to drive a significant distance from some locations. There's a gas station on damn near every corner

That's true, for now.

The greatness that is Buc'ees is supposedly going to have charging stations at all of their locations, and I think I recall Elon saying that he's pushing state governments, including Texas, to start helping get more created so that people can drive to without hassle.

When i am seeing pretty much every car maker, including the non-luxury ones, putting out commercials for very affordable cars, suvs, and truck - all EV - it's happening whether a certain segment of the population rails against it or not.

That's until people looking for a gas car find out they can't buy them anymore. Sadly, most of America isn't paying attention to what's happening until it hits them in the face.

So with all the talk about EVs, I drove from Salt Lake to Albuquerque to Oklahoma City to Memphis via I 40 and then to Atlanta. I returned via I 20 to Birmingham to Shreveport to Abilene, then to Lubbock and backtracked to Albuquerque and home to Salt Lake. I saw about ten or so Teslas on that entire 4,000 mile round trip, including areas around the cities. I am not saying they aren't there, but the cost is much higher than a hybrid which gets you ~50 mpg on a trip like that.

I have same problem as OP.

By the time you are practically forced to get an EV the battery tech will be much more advanced.

Except for 2 and 5, those look to be about 45 min apart. Hardly convenient. Do they sell beer at those stations or is that another stop I need to make?

It's a money grab. You have to find a reason to shell out 50k for less efficiency.

For the geographically challenged it means that on avg you are at least 20 min away from the closest super duper charger anywhere in the DFW area.

I've never planned a route, where I lived, or where I worked based on gas stations. Maybe that is a thing in the EV charging world.

It's kinda funny to me, it's like the 1800's all over again. You can only go as far as the closest watering hole and have to plan a day's ride based on it.

If you have 300 miles of range why would need to plan a route around chargers if you live in the Dallas Fort Worth area?

I'll add...
To make it sound like route planning based on chargers and "will I make it to destination B" isn't a thing with an EV people is laughable.

That's all they talk about on any test drive video of the vehicles I've watched. The people test driving them on TFL ( who are very pro EV) nearly pass out from the stress debating if they should stop and charge or risk it all!

Just to see for myself, I jumped over on the Tesla forums and literally the 5th thread was titled "Route Planning" and the goober was asking for advice on how to get to his VRBO safely. lol

The idea that a vehicle purchase is in any way political is truly odd.
You've made it very clear you don't care one iota about the environment or labor practices involved in producing your vehicle, and have campaigned against all heretics about the brand/type of vehicle you chose for yourself.

Lamenting that others have different political views about it is a bit rich.

As is the post by manhattan demonstrating a lack of understanding of physics and economics.

Exactly. A car is a tool and nothing more. Find one that fits your desire, use, and price range and buy it. It doesn't need to be political.

Well then tell leadership to stop making it political. Dont understand why you cant see that.

I'm not sure if people genuinely believe someone is going to say, "Wow, if some people say I'm a moron for not believing this, it clearly must be true."

It's not much a persuasive argument. It really just sounds like a bunch of miniature dachshunds barking because the first one one barked when it thought it heard something.

That's a good point.

I got other stuff to think about.

That's one more thing added to the list.

Can you make it? Will you have to stop for a charge? How long will charging take? And will I be on time for wherever I'm going?

I'll pay high gas prices not to have to think about those things.

Likely won't be on time if you find a charging station and there's a queue of EVs waiting to charge.

The closest I can see myself coming to buying an EV would be a hybrid. The ROI would have to improve significantly before I would consider even that though.

You are over thinking what Elon has already solved. You enter your destination and the car routes you with charging stops calculated, how long you should charge at each stop, and you can see how many cars are in each stall at each charger in real time.

EVs are great daily commuters within 100 mile radius or so but terrible all purpose primary vehicles at this point. Still far prefer my gas guzzling Silverado to the complexities inherent in having an EV as your sole mode of transport.

But if you live in an urban center and never drive very far, it's a different story and much more feasible. Unless it self immolates.

Ev are great for city commutes but are very stressful for long trips. I had a Model S 2012-2018 and loved it but road trips were a chore. I sold it because I wanted a convertible and didn't need 4 seats with the kids grown and moved out.

After a few Boxsters I am loving my current corvette for this life stage.

To your point, this one made me laugh. Too long to watch it all but the TLDW version is 'charging these things is a big pain, just as buying them is.'
