Which really speaks volumes to how well the UA push is actually going if Russia is publicly admitting to their own failures/incompetence this quickly rather than let something possibly be attributed to Ukrainian success.

Just hope Ukraine casualties are low. Read how they still have to go against lots of Russian artillery, infantry, snipers, and sappers have to clear the path of mines etc. They even booby trap the mines by planting a grenade beneath it.

Being methodical and disciplined seems to be the key

If Putin has declared an attack on the newly annexed regions to be an attack on Russia, what is stopping Ukraine from now putting troops on Russian soil? (Other than nukes and public opinion)

Storming a couple divisions over to Belgorod to disrupt Russia's regional logistics hub could be of strategic value. Russia doesn't appear to have prepared defensive positions there and the ability to cross the border to move behind the Russians and attack from their rear could be quite effective.

how do you figure? if they could do it and accomplish a viable objective, i imagine they would. the issue would be overextending into an area where they could easily be cutoff and not having a viable long term objective to accomplish. they don't want to give russia the benefit of a public opinion boost that an operation like that would provide, nor give them the opening to play themselves off as the non-aggressor.

they've already hit crimea and belgorod. i dont see how we've got them on a leash here. we're feeding them every bit of battefield intel we can. if doing so would accomplish our long term objectives, bet your bottom dollar it would happen.

Conscripts would be much more motivated to defend their own turf, not Ukrainian land or pretend-Russian land.

Now that Ukraine controls most of the way to the border it puts Belgorad within HIMARS and perhaps some tube artillery range, making an assault into Russia unnecessary to hit LOCs there. Anyway, Ukraine doesn't have any spare brigades, much less divisions.

Any ground assault of Belogord or Rostov (way in the future) would lead to Russia using nukes. Probably off the table.
