We took the DDGs that the Shah had ordered and made them part of the US Navy. Then whenthey were decommissioned we sold them to other countries.
Ordered, but not yet owned by Iran. The question is if foreign assets seized under sanctions can legally be permanently taken or is a separate judgement for reparations needed.

I'm for any option that bills Russia for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

There were a lot of Iranian assets we seized.

I get the skepticism some have of adding other countries to NATO. Especially ones with small populations and large borders. But the Finns have a realistic and well planned total defense including an incredibly trained population and a spend well over 2% (I think it's over 3%) of GDP on their defense. I would be the amount of mines put in the field in the first week would make the Russian advance less than 10 mi.

Swedes are also pretty competent by European standards.

I propose admitting additional countries that are spending >2% GDP on defense and simultaneously dropping the country spending the lowest percentage of GDP Oon defence. Generate a bit of excitement among the "Bum's Club" of Montenegro, North Macedonia, Albania, and Luxembourg.

The four lowest contributing nations by % of GDP are: Luxembourg, Spain, Belgium & Slovenia.

I mean, even conservative reports are saying Russia has lost 1/3 or more of their invasion force since the start of the war. This has been nothing short of a meat grinder for them on the level of David and Goliath.

Taking on a NATO country with a modern army? No chance.

I keep waiting for China to strike from the east. Then again at this rate, Russia may only have half the professional army they started with in 6 months, so probably not in a hurry.

Big number of KIA for sure, but the loss of 80 pieces of armor in one engagement is even more devastating. Russia unable to efficiently refit, while Ukes receive steady flow of armor from the West and organized repair ops from NATO border allies.

Multiply the above figures by 10 and the potential (hypothetical) losses of 5,000 troops vs. 800 armor pieces, definitely highlights a debilitating trend for the Ruskie invaders…even if it takes weeks, months to get to this.

China is probably reassessing their armed forces as they have military equipment built with Chinese junk. They might also be making sure that corruption hasn't gutted their military also.

Their military might be too close to Russia's current state. Paper tiger also?

Definitely maybe.

The problem is, assume incorrectly and pay dearly. That's not a risk anyone can take in war.

If anything, I bet they're looking for new tires for their equipment.

It isn't just that NATO is more modern, they're better trained in all phases of conflict. Everything NATO troops do is coordinated between branches and units, and Russia's advantages in numbers and equipment in Ukraine would evaporate against NATO. Even if they fully mobilized and put out a million man army, I think they would fall flat on their face against the better training and organization.
