There is some chatter that he may have been the general at the Belgorod airport mentioned above, evacuated out of the theater due to his injury, and then transported to Moscow. It's all totally unconfirmed at this point, so I won't even link it, but it's an interesting theory.

How much longer can Russia sustain this conflict economically? What sanctions not currently placed should we be placing to really hurt them?

You have to remember that the internet you're used to is English based. Other languages on the net have much smaller corners and not everyone over there is fluent in English. Combine with a huge amount of propoganda from primary school on you get the results you see.

There are more sanctions you could install but the problem is that they would create huge problems domestically in Europe and here. You could also try and coerce some of the Russian's partner countries like India, Brazil, China, Saudi but that's unlikely to happen because a) we can't give them a better deal, b) the negative coercion would have outsized negative consequences and c) the current regime has already damaged those relationships (ahem Saudi) to the point where we won't get any traction.

When have we ever seen economic sanctions work quickly to make someone capitulate? Venezuela, Libya, Iran, Iraq, etc were under sanctions for years and didn't make them buckle. Authoritarian regimes can get even stronger politically under sanctions because they can blame all the bad on the West. I think sanctions will eventually work in weakening Russia but only by bringing their manufacturing to a stop through lack of foreign parts and goods. As long as they have oil to sell Putin can keep solvent.
