I don't see how Russia plans on taking anything in Ukraine. They should quit now before they lose land that they "controlled" before the war started.

If this is in reference to the video of a Su-34 going down that's been making the rounds today, they didn't shoot it down. Plane is in a flat spin with no smoke visible, likely a mechanical issue.

In Mother Russia our planes decide when to go down to prevent being shot. Ukraine is weak and does not control us.

How is it possibly better for Russia if their crap is just breaking before even getting shot at (if that's what happened)?

Possible but not certain. Not every weapon hit causes fire. A control surface could be blown off or control system damaged causing loss of control.

The question is what got someone's attention to be filming that particular aircraft then?

........or the pilot could be incapacitated and that's why no ejection so low.

Welp, if true then one less stinger or SAM wasted.

You can hear it still has power, so it's unlikely an engine issue.

With no smoke/flame and no ejection so low, I'm still betting on the pilot being incapacitated (e.g., hypoxia, over-g, etc.).

However it went down, at least we know it went down. I'm not sure I see the reason the "why" matters to the defense.

After reviewing the video here is my conclusion.

The flat spin was likely induced by the disruption of air flow into the starboard engine. The disruption will have stalled the engine which would have produced enough yaw rate to induce a spin that was unrecoverable. There is no way the pilot could have seen or avoided the disruption that caused the spin

What makes you say that versus mechanical failure or pilot error?

There are SAMs like starstreak that have a very small explosive. They depend on actually hitting the target instead of using a proximity warhead. You might not see an explosive trail.

One claims knowledge on infantry the other some form of knowledge about things that fly!

I'm surprised the pilots were able to eject from that spin.

Planes don't typically depart controlled flight and fall out of the sky, even Russian ones. While mechanical failure is possible, it's more likely it was shot down like numerous other Su-34's (if that what it is) before it.

Air defense missiles do not carry large explosive charges and often do not cause aircraft to explode into pieces. They are designed to spray enough frag to foul up hydraulic lines, flight control surfaces, etc. which is all you need for a "kill" on a target.

Generally, if a plane is lost to mechanical issue it is related to power, i.e. engine, here it appears that the Su-34's engine remained operative. I am not very familiar with the Su-34 or Russian air force training but I would make the assumption that on a twin engine platform, their pilots have trained and rehearsed engine out drills and how to recover from the loss of one. That leaves the possibilities of a sudden sui generis critical malfunction in flight controls, pilot incapacitation, or hostile fire. I am unfamiliar with Russian ejection systems but based on the successful ejection of the crew, I would lean towards discounted pilot incapacitation. That leaves a loss of flight control due either to sudden malfunction or hostile fire. Given that the event took place in an active warzone with contested airspace, in which the Ukrainian air defense forces have previously shot down the same type of aircraft, it is reasonable to assess that this is a shoot down.

if Russia were to do a false flag, i think they would hit their own citizens, and not legitimate strategic targets. These are high value targets with limited (if any) causalities. That makes me think that is Ukraine or Ukrainian-friendly saboteurs

Under Putin's reign, the terrorists' targets have tended to be civilian. Apartments, theatres, etc, with civilian casualties. And usually with suspicion of a false flag by the FSB. Attacking non-civilian targets isn't the FSB's MO.
