And there it is. Moscow is effectively, if not in name, under martial law. A sign that Putin is increasingly afraid of his own people.
He should be...seems he is amongst a very few in his country that thought an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation was a good idea...

Oh...and his army keeps getting it's teeth kicked in to boot...

Norway, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands are all currently retiring their F-16s as they receive F-35s.

Send those F-16s to Poland to backfill their MIG-29s that might be sent to Ukraine.

If you read the English translation of his letter, Belarusian commanders are facing mass mutinies from their troops refusing to go into Ukraine. This confirms earlier reports that the same was happening.

it's a good point...that while the Russian army is having major logistical issues...

will that make them retreat from the battlefield?

Not a chance

A full on tactical retreat? Yeah, not likely I agree. An "operational pause" to shore up what they can? Pretty sure that is what is happening as we speak. At least from the Russian POV.

Russian soldiers aren't the only MIAs in the war, the entire Russian officer corpsis shockingly absent. To the extent tha they are exercising command and control over forces I concur that they will not order a retreat. That won't make any difference as time goes on because panic is spreading among Russian forces in the field as they face continued stiff resistance while Russian supply lines are spotty to utterly broken.

Russian soldiers are being captured and deserting in numbers that have very few precedents and none that I can think of among armies that were eventually victorious.

Every Russian fuel truck that is destroyed, abandoned, or captured takes another motorized or mechanized company ot of the fight. The Ukrainians are doing a very good job attacking this soft underbelly.

Commands to advance or withdraw mean nothing in the face of empty fuel tanks and deserting forces. The officer corps has continued to pour the Russian army into a funnel that is destroying it day by day.

Who is (or who dares) delivering the truth to Putin? Are the General Staff merely putting off the inevitable for fear of the wrath of the tyrant? This can't go on forever. Perhaps not even a few more days before there is no one answering on the other end of the radio handset.

Ukraine is crushing Russia at media utilizing the words of Russian and Belorussian citizens. Do Russian units still contain a political officer like soviet ones?

I think that becomes an issue of training, as the Ukes are not familiar with the F-16s...

Is this true in the South though? The Russian Army seems better organized and motivated coming out of that region. The Ukrainians are busy defending their capital so I worry that a slow steady push by the RA will move North.

Apparently, not. Maybe there is a Bagdad Bob on state TV being paraded everyday inside of Russia but if there is, I haven't seen it.

Everyday Russian citizens may have been told that Ukraine was under some sort of fascist dictatorship justifying this so called "special operation" but then they wake up and see the troops and armored personnel carriers on the streets of Moscow, they have to wonder if they have been lied to. Another tactical mistake by Putin. Hard to rally your own people around you at gunpoint.

That's why people are saying for Poland to send their MIGs to Ukraine and the surrounding countries will make Poland's AF whole with F-16s until the US can get more to them to fill the void of the MIGs that were sent to Ukraine.

Ukraine gets Poland's MIGs
Poland gets F-16s from surrounding countries and US

Just because one prong of the Russian offensive has been halted-

does not mean the other three prongs of the Russian offensive have been halted.

Several on here are blithely asserting that Putin's army has retreated in disorder with no ability to continue the fight.

the Russians still have several axes ADVANCING as we read this right now.

way too premature to be positing that because you are seeing one side of the war that the Ukes are now winning the war militarily. It is all dependent on how many losses Putin is able to take before being forced to the negotiating table.

Look closely at a battle map- Russian forces are surrounding /within range of nearly every major city in Ukraine and if the southern force continues to advance they will cut off a majority of the Uke army.

Pretty sure criticism from The Guardian is blue on blue
https://apple.news/A9CPayA2jRQucP7ASmShDQw
Russia's ruthless treatment of its own soldiers, while concealable at a small scale, has now brought about operational repercussions. Having not told its troops that they were about to go to war, its army has been left unprepared, logistically and psychologically. Morale is low, limiting the combat power of Russian forces. With too little time to plan, Russian logistics and communications are in disarray, slowing its pace of advance. This gives the Ukrainians crucial time to prepare their defences and organise a protracted resistance.

My guess would be that the Russians had more supplies in Crimea in advance to better support the push from the south. Sevastopol has historically been a huge military presence for Russia with the Black Sea fleet stationed there.

It would not surprise me if the southern columns are feeling the effects of supply limits now. Innate corruption would be a problem in the southern posts just like it is in the rest of the military. I have also not really noticed pictures involving mud problems in the south. The Russians may have had easier movement initially out of Crimea and were not limited to moving on roads.

whoever made that point on Twitter is forgetting a few important things- if the Russians take his advice they will be captured and shot as spies/sabateurs

and the fact that there is a nice big "Z" painted on the sides of the vehicles might just give away the game.

instead of one highway surrounded by swamps/bogs like the axis from Belarus down to Kyiv, the southern front is open with a much larger road network where the Russians are able to bring to bear their superior numbers.

You would think the Russians would be pouring troops into the Southern sector to drive right up the western side of the Dnieper. The Russian forces around Kiev would keep a large portion of Ukrainian troops pinned in the north while the southern Russian movement from the south forces the Ukrainians to retreat from the east or risk having a large portion of their army encircled.

Any port in a storm and all that, but talk about having some long term consequences.

Maybe the chicom hackers will be so busy defrauding the Russians that they'll leave the West alone for a few months.

If this is the strength of the committed force, they are either holding an abundance in reserve fearing a nato response or we can lop off 10-20% from all inventory numbers. They must believe they have all the guns they need for this.
Glad we are quiet on observed Russian troop strengths near Poland and the Baltic's. And it must have been a pain in the ass to place more troops up at the Finnish border.
