So that 40 mile long line of vehicles. Just about every picture I have seen the picture doesn't seem to have any people around. It almost appears the vehicles are abandoned.
I know that is not possible…..but dang those pictures
I wouldn't be so sure that many of those vehicles haven't been deserted. Put yourself in the place of the poorly led crews.
Situation:
1. You've been stuck for 4-6 days.
2. It's freezing and dark.
3. You haven't seen a officer above the rank of Lieutenant since you crossed the border.
4. Out of fuel.
5. Dead battery and no tactical radio.
6. Last call home before cell phone died was confusing because the folks back in Russia have no idea what's going on here.
7. Dry rations are gone.
COAs
1. Remain with the truck while freezing and starving and wonder when the Ukrainians attack.
2. Desert and try to make it back to the border following the road north n foot (and perhaps be shot for desertion)
3. Desert through the flooded wodds and try to surrender to Ukrainians before dying of hypothermia with waterlogged boots and trenchant causing flesh to tear off with every step.
4. Eat a bullet.
They are in a very desperate situation. The corruption of the officer corps mand they are not part of a cohesive unit but inan every man for himself life or death struggle.
