The Ukrainian people and President Zelenskyy are showing the world what a free country looks like when fighting for its survival against totalitarian aggression, even at overwhelming odds. We have all been moved by their bravery and heroism.

It is incumbent upon the United States to ensure that our Ukrainian allies have what they need to defend themselves, and that Putin does not have resources he needs to fund his war machine.

President Zelenskyy told us his top priority is that the Ukrainians need to take back their skies, which are being used by Putin to wage war against cities and murder civilians. The United States and our allies should move immediately to provide them above all else with fighter jets, as well as with Stingers and other anti-aircraft assets. We must also continue supplying them with additional lethal aid, especially Javelins. Democrats in the Senate need to end their delays, and the Biden administration needs to cease withholding actionable intelligence from Kyiv.

Meanwhile, the United States should immediately implement an oil and gas embargo on Russia. If the Biden administration won't do so on its own, Congress should mandate that they do so. As President Zelenskyy told us, boycotting Russian oil and gas would be the most potent sanction we can impose, by far, and it is also the only economic sanction that can tenably and quickly affect Russia's ability to continue financing its aggression.

In the coming days Congress will focus on aid to Ukraine. We should consider a standalone Ukraine military aid package to get them the assistance they need as quickly as possible. Ukraine, its people, and its leaders will not survive if we settle for half-measures and delay.

The US has been delivering munitions extremely fast since the beginning of the conflict.

We announced additional aid of $350 million worth of weapons 7 days ago, and already delivered $210 million worth.

Quote:

The American weaponry, which included the Javelins as well as small arms and munitions, was part of a $350 million package that Mr. Biden authorized on Saturday; within two days, one official said, the deliveries were landing at an airfield near the border that can process 17 airplanes a day.

What began as a trickle with only two or three planes arriving a day is now a steady flow, the official said, with 14 loads from one airfield alone.

The shipment of weapons which also includes Stinger antiaircraft missiles from U.S. military stockpiles, mostly in Germany represents the largest single authorized transfer of arms from U.S. military warehouses to another country

A $60 million arms package to Ukraine announced in August, for example, was not completed until November. The last portions of a $200 million weapons package announced in late December were still trickling into Ukraine, the Pentagon official said.

$1 billion of [aid] has been sent in the past year, 3 billion since 2014

Yeah that part was definitely not lost in translation.

So here is what I gather from this:

1. Adds even more confirmation to the theory that he is suffering from paranoia. He has been keeping a large distance in all other photos and this stood out but now proven to be fake.

2. Who thought it would make sense to have a bunch of stewardesses as an audience? He could have green screened anyone, at this point, and this was his choice? I get that there are travel restrictions, but it's just bizarre. All of it.

I'm glad to see that cards will still work domestically. I'm fan of punishing the government and having their economy take punches to the gut, but the general populace should still be able to access money. Still need them to hopefully enact political change in their country. This will obviously leave some Russians effectively stranded outside of Russia though.
Russian Citizen friend of mine in Dallas confirms her Russian issued Visa cards are affected.

Fortunately, her husband has all his account access through American and Moldovan banks/institutions.

She said her Russian friends in other European nations and in Asia are stuck and have no access to bank or credit accounts and are in bad trouble.

Collateral damage is not just kinetic.....it's financial and it hurts regular people on all sides.

'I Just Can't Stand By': American Veterans Join the Fight in Ukraine

Quote:

Hector served two violent tours in Iraq as a U.S. Marine, then got out, got a pension and a civilian job, and thought he was done with military service. But Friday, he boarded a plane for one more deployment, this time as a volunteer in Ukraine. He checked in several bags filled with rifle scopes, helmets and body armor donated by other veterans.

After the invasion, he saw veterans flooding social media eager to join the fight. Unable to go because of commitments here, he has spent the past week acting as a sort of middle man for a group called Volunteers for Ukraine, identifying veterans and other volunteers with useful skills and connecting them with donors who buy gear and airline tickets.

This is likely politics from the other side of the isle within the US. If Zelenskyy didnt want his image or background to be shared, he could have used the background filter on Zoom to blur out the background while he was on the call.

Not all of them empowered him..... Don't paint them all with a broad brush.

My Russian friends are disgusted, embarrassed, and horrified at all of this.

Crimea is why Putin thought he could pull this off. Inaction played a central part in bringing the world to this point. If Putin is allowed any measure of victory this will serve to further reinforce this type of operation as a valid course of action in his mind.

These are the people our young people need to look to for inspiration and a role model to follow. Not the celebrities or social media stars or politicians. These are the heroes who stop atrocities like the one posted above.

I am not sure how fast you could get them out of Davis Monthan to a operable condition. Those are also older models so it would be stop gap.

I believe that we have been pulling some out to make into target drones. Who knows.

So are the Ukrainians that are dying. If they're as horrified as you say then they can take stock in the fact that they're doing their part to fight back against Putin and bring an end to this. They have skin in the game now and they should. Small price to pay compared to Ukrainians.

I think I read that Poland had about 28 Mig-29's that they were going to retire and replace with F-16's. I don't know that Mig-29's are that answer for them because they are a short range point defense fighter. Too bad someone does not have a large stockpile of Su-24's to send them.

It takes a long time to learn how to effectively fight with an aircraft. Just because they are pilots, they don't know how to use the F-16 in a fight. I'm sure that an intensive 1 month training could get them to the point they'd have a chance to survive.

There is also the logistical side. Can their Soviet era refueling equipment work on an F-16. What about weapons? Tools for the maintenance crews? Spare parts, the list goes on. It's not like going to the rental counter and picking up a car brand that you don't own.

I dont think that we are talking about supplying the Ukes with F-16's. We are talking about giving them Polish Migs and then selling/loaning the Polish F-16's to replace them.
