That's not good. Sounding like Putin might be totally off his rocker.

Well that is not ideal.
Today, unfortunately, many Americans have good reason to fear that they will be victimized if they are unable to protect themselves. And today, no less than in 1791, the Second Amendment guarantees their right to do so. - Justice Samuel Alito 2022

Why would Israel be worried about it's citizens in Russia unless they are in Belgorod or other border areas near Ukraine?

Do the Israeli's expect a wider escalation that could impact all of Russia -- and by assumption - other areas?

More likely because martial law is about to be imposed and the government is disappearing people.

Or Russia taking foreign nationals hostage in an attempt to leverage them.

Ukraine.

What deal would putin take at this point? Seriously?

Removal of all sanctions
The three regions Russia claims become Russian territories
Neither putin nor any of his soldiers get charged with war crimes
Ukraine is banned from nato and eu membership

Maybe that but i don't think Ukraine would take that deal. A China would probably laugh all the way to Taiwan

Sounds like what Saddam did pre Gulf-War 1 with American and British families.

If true, bombers should be arriving soon.

Does Ukraine have a good counter with their air force and surface to air capabilities? I imagine the bombers will be higher altitude and thus out of range of some of the weapons we've seen used so far.
If they have a working S-300 or Buk in the area, yes.

The manpads are limited to relatively low altitude aircraft, like close air support planes and helicopters.

Russia has guided, pinpoint air-to-ground munitions capability but have not prioritized it in defense procurement. These things are more than likely carrying a lot of unguided munitions.

Here's a nice tutorial on the various anti-armor and anti-aircraft missiles Ukraine has received.

Putin is about to open the evil dictator playbook all the way up, I'm afraid. He believes (and is supposed by evidence to this point) that he has greater will than the west and will do anything necessary to secure a win.

He'll do everything he can to convince the west to abandon Ukraine or outright stab them in the back. And that will empower Russia to do this again in the future.

Zelensky's face and vids are plastered all over the world media twenty times a day. Its more likely that a demand not to post screenshots is just made up for political purposes, IMO. Hes not gonna be on a zoom call with hordes of foreigners if hes in imminent danger

They retired the original models but still use the more updated Tu-22M. They've been using them a lot in Syria.

All of their stuff is old to quite old! The TU-22 is a cold war relic that has gone through modifications. Much like the B-52. It is a supersonic bomber though. The TU-95 Bear and the TU-16 Badger are even older, but still in service with Russia.

Our B-2 is not quite a spring chicken either, around 30 years old.

Quote:

The Ukrainian people and President Zelenskyy are showing the world what a free country looks like when fighting for its survival against totalitarian aggression, even at overwhelming odds. We have all been moved by their bravery and heroism.

It is incumbent upon the United States to ensure that our Ukrainian allies have what they need to defend themselves, and that Putin does not have resources he needs to fund his war machine.

President Zelenskyy told us his top priority is that the Ukrainians need to take back their skies, which are being used by Putin to wage war against cities and murder civilians. The United States and our allies should move immediately to provide them above all else with fighter jets, as well as with Stingers and other anti-aircraft assets. We must also continue supplying them with additional lethal aid, especially Javelins. Democrats in the Senate need to end their delays, and the Biden administration needs to cease withholding actionable intelligence from Kyiv.

Meanwhile, the United States should immediately implement an oil and gas embargo on Russia. If the Biden administration won't do so on its own, Congress should mandate that they do so. As President Zelenskyy told us, boycotting Russian oil and gas would be the most potent sanction we can impose, by far, and it is also the only economic sanction that can tenably and quickly affect Russia's ability to continue financing its aggression.

In the coming days Congress will focus on aid to Ukraine. We should consider a standalone Ukraine military aid package to get them the assistance they need as quickly as possible. Ukraine, its people, and its leaders will not survive if we settle for half-measures and delay.

Possibly.
Or Putin declares martial law or Russia has a rebellion / coup / civil war.
Or they want to get all their people home before Putin launches nukes.
All kinds of ugly possibilities.

This was brought up earlier in the thread, and I believe it was said that some intelligence could give away the methods that were finding Intel out.

I assumed Russia would have a ton of night vision. Obviously they don't.

About 5,000 thermal scopes in Kyev right now would be killer. Brave guerrilla troops armed with these for nightly counter attacks would be devastating.
I didn't either but I have been keeping an eye out last couple of days and I have yet to see one Russian soldier with NVG mounts on their helmets. Not even their airborne. Doesn't discount weapon and vehicle mounted of course but it is a huge indicator of the overall capabilities of a typical mechanized infantry unit.

At least the Ukes have them for their SF guys (even if given to them by us)

Night vision capability at the small unit level is such a combat multiplier that to forgo it's use has to mean logistics and training deficiencies. No country would knowingly not use them, if they have the capacity to do so.

Hell, I even have night vision in my bag right now, and I'm driving to a Florida beach.
