I see the point being made here. But the fly in that ointment is the Azov battalion. What a weird place…

That's foraging and armies have done it since the dawn of warfare.

So you're saying they need to do this because, for some unspecified reason, they don't have enough food? Might that unspecified reason be the Russian army's inability to provide the materials required to sustain war fighting operations?

When food is available you take it to supplement the rations you already have. Again this is nothing new and if you've read one book on any conflict in history you would know this.

There were videos of them flying around on the first day. Don't know if they were actual videos from Ukraine or copy paste from other conflicts, but they were definitely been reported as being in the air space.

Russia's lack of air ability may be the biggest surprise coming out of this.
Was just talking with The Hubs about the lack of Russian drone video. Have you seen or read anything about Russian drone operations?

I saw a picture of a supposed Russian drone in the back of a pick up but I don't know their drones well enough to know if it was or not. I also don't know what their drone capabilities are.
If it was the red one i remember seeing, i thought the claim was it was a Russian target training drone or something, and they suspected it was in country to try to draw out Ukrainian Anti-Air positions.

Found it

Thanks!! Appreciate it. Now I know what to look for.

Azov battalion, by most reports, was "cleansed" some time ago of the neo-Nazi trash that had taken up residence.

If Putin sent in the "B" team for this invasion, I wonder why?

What are his plans for the "A" team? Where are they?

-Is he holding them in reserve to protect the "Motherland"
-Did he anticipate a scenario where the US and NATO struck back and he didn't want to lose his "A" Team?
-Is he maybe holding them back to smash any potential US/NATO troops that may come to fight in Ukraine?
-Might he have other plans for more invasions and he is holding the "A" Team back for that attack?

There's no indication that an A team is mobilizing anywhere.

BRICS alliance holding somewhat - though i would like to see Brazil and India pull back. Not likely, but would be ideal.

So are we including the economic war as strategic, to be included in this thread or not?

The A team was the Wagner guys. We shot them up pretty good a while back. The Ukes shot them up this week. Not much left. The other special forces are protecting Putin.

Honestly I don't see anyone pulling out of that one.

Lets do some math here....

If 5,800 Russians have died in a week, then a prolonged war ,of say a year, would mean that 301,600 Russians will die in this war.

From Russia's own defense ministry:

"The Russian Armed Forces are one of the world's largest military forces, with around a million active-duty personnel, which is the world's fifth-largest, and at least 2 million reserve personnel."

This means that Russia is on par to lose 10%+ of all military men available to it (active duty and reserves).

I do not believe the Russian people, or the oligarchs, will stomach that without great resistance to Putin.

Putin MUST win this war or he is DONE. And he knows it. And that is why we here crazy irrational talk from him and their foreign minister.

Probably not going to see any more of those. It was a target drone on a one way mission to draw fire in the beginning.

I'm aware of the concept and not something I'm disputing; however, the increasing reports of this occurring give the impression that this isn't just solely for better chow. I'm open to the idea that they're doing this for both purposes: expanding their menu and/or running low on provisions and cannot be resupplied having to resort to other means.

Russian supply chain problems is not a new problem for them as others have noted.

BRIC is not an alliance. It's a group of countries with growing economies that work together in some economic capacity.

Militarily, India and China are at odds. India recognizes the threat from China and have been engaging heavily with Australia, Japan, and the US. But right now they are still dependent on Russia for arms, equipment, spare parts, and service. They aren't going to openly critique them but they aren't supporting them either.

The entirety of Azov was and still is ultra right wing Ukrainian nationalist. They constantly use swastikas and other far right imagery in pictures.

Anyone saying otherwise is lying.

Not to mention the Chechens. Those guys are the most brutal. Putin uses them to quell uprisings and dissent.

But a lot of them apparently got blown up trying to get to Kyiv and they lost one of their generals. Another Chechen squad was behind the attempted attack on Zelenskyy and per Ukr forces they were also neutralized.

These shows are where a lot of aviation deals get made. That being said, there are shows all over the world now. The ME hosts them. I'm sure Russia will be there.

I've seen some Indian news articles on Twitter when Russia told them to pound sand when their students were (are? I've lost track) still there that would lead me to believe that there is a growing dissatisfaction with Russia to some degree.

However, I agree that the government won't say anything for awhile for the states obvious reasons. I think we talked about India's abstention on the security council on voting for the draft resolution and their ties economically and for defense about the same time.

If you had a chance to get something other than a MRE after eating them for a week you would steal some if given the opportunity. Should not be looked into too much.

I don't think Putin thought Ukraine would put up this much of a fight, and from what I was reading at the beginning Russia was using their spetsnaz in airborne attacks to take over the airports/runways and suffered high casualties. Likely why we are seeing a bunch of young kids instead of season operators.

With all of the anti-tank/aircraft weapons flowing in from other countries Russia may soon be losing their technological superiority. When you fight someone defending home soil and you do not have the tactical or technological advantage, that is no beuno. Add urban combat to that and there will be a lot of dead Russians

During that conflict, Azerbaijan rigged up An-2s with basic modifications to the flight controls. The biplanes were then flown by pilots and put on a course that would take them over the relevant Armenian positions. The pilot would then lock the controls and bail out, leaving it to fly pilotless, triggering the defenses before its ultimate demise, either shot down, running out of fuel, or otherwise crashing.
That's crazy.

Have we gotten into how the Russian troops are organized and what some of these designations are in comparison to the US military?

Would Spetznaz be like Rangers?

If anyone can get hands on them Would be convicted in absentia.

Would severely limit their international travel access as anyone signing on to the ICC would have to turn them over.
