Interesting thought. It is time lapse of course. That shock wave remained visible for a radius of over 1500 miles, which would probably take 1-2 hours? But the scary thing is, wouldnt a shockwave visible from space do severe damage to manmade structures for most if not all of its visible radius? I guess the world can count itself pretty lucky it went off in one of the most remote places on earth, and hope its done.

And lol-'declared dormant on tuesday'. Ygbkm

How much did it being an underwater volcano dampen the blast?

Great recap of everything:

The fact that it spent all last week with intermittent eruptions kinda shuts down the "it was declared dormant" claims.

Pray for Tonga and the surrounding areas.

A little bit of levity because the area is special to me (nsfw):

Scott Manley is one of my favorite YouTube channels. He mostly talks about space flight, but every once and awhile he does a video like this.

My main concern is that this volcano might not be done erupting.

Astonishing amounts of lightning, too. Far more strikes (events) than they've observed with past eruptions:

"The thing just went gangbusters," says Chris Vagasky, meteorologist and lightning applications manager at the Finland-based weather measurements company Vaisala. "We were starting to get 5,000 or 6,000 events per minute. That's a hundred events per second. It's unbelievable."

As I'm looking at that set of photos, I'm wondering how this thing was declared "dormant" last Tuesday (which I think is the day someone posted earlier in the thread). Or if it was ever actually declared dormant.
