At least Carter seemed to love America, as misguided as he was.
Carter had a foundation of his faith that kept him somewhat centered despite his misguided optimism that liberalism was morally correct and not corrupted. The Clintons, Obamas, and Bidens destroyed what little of that was left from the party Carter inherited.

I used to give Carter a pass like some of you here.

I dont do that anymore.

His comments about the US compared to some other countries in the world over the last 30 years, his negative comments, not just about Trump, but also about Bush 43. His positive comments about Clinton, Obama, and Biden. His belief in the UN, WHO, CDC, etc etc.

Nope, he's no mild mannered Sunday school teacher peanut farmer from Georgia. Not anymore if he ever was.. He's a globalist that likes the idea of a weakened America if it leads to the socialist version of world peace. Which is essentially a version of Benevolent Totalitarianism.

Well, the good news is that SS is tied to inflation, so they got a gigantic raise.

SS cost of living adjustment for 2022 will be 5.9%. so unfortunately no, they didn't. still short of the reported CPI which is itself 100% false.

Have to see the increase to medicare premiums though. It will probably suck up much of the increase for many.

I don't eat a ton of fast food, but I do like Chicken E about once / month. It was $9.50 for a combo last week. I swear the same thing cost me $7 and some change a few months back.

I think I posted elsewhere, but a couple of months ago, I was craving some Rice Box General Tso's Chicken. I hadn't had it in probably over a year. I go to order online for pickup. The total bill come to right about $20. WTF?!! Last time I got it, it was around $14 all-in. I noped right out of there and they lost my business. I just sucked it up and ate whatever boring stuff I had at home.

Even though I can make it last two meals, $20 simply is not worth what it is.

Jimmy Carter took office in January 1977, unemployment had reached 7.4 percent. Carter responded with an ambitious spending program and called for the Federal Reserve (the Fed) to expand the money supply. Within two years, inflation had climbed to 13.3 percent.

We are on our way to another Carter economy

Small business America, especially manufacturing like ours, is tough sledding. This is also with a 300% increase in sales last year and expecting 200% increase for this year. Still isn't enough even with us raising our prices by about 15%.

I feel all of this. The electronics market is an absolute **** show right now - I'm not even sure we will end up being able to fulfill what is already booked, much less the things we expect to win this year. It sucks. We need to pay more, but then, that is just upping our cost in a market with a ton of pressure already on cost, and hell, even existence of raw materials.
People not in the industry I explain this to say I am full of **** and that I am describing an impossible equation, I am not. It's a challenge but I am still deluded enough to think my company is slightly set up better than others. This **** is crazy though.
Well, if you increase the price enough to cover the increase in the cost of materials plus just maintain status quo for your workers' real wages, people just won't buy a good or service, if it's not a necessity. At some point, you can either work at break-even or have no work and have to let everyone go.

I was in this situation after 9/11/2001. I was in software and consulting to the heavy industries, and they just stopped doing projects.

Retirees should have a decent portfolio if they have saved, invested during the past 15-30 years. If your financial advisor is not putting you in a position to outpace inflation, look for better options. Retirees should have that plus Social Security for a better standard of living than most working folks. The great sin of our modern educational system is not educating people with regard to both nutritional health and the power of investing for financial security.

The only way to outpace inflation is to be in securities, and, at least in the old world, retirees were typically more loaded into bonds to protect them from the potential drop in the securities markets.

At least that was my understanding. The older you get, the less you risk.

I bought a box of CCI BR4 Small Rifle Primers for $79 8-months ago.

Same box is $99 today (if you can find them on the shelf).
