I still had the feel watching Ted yesterday and tonight that he is a man who was coerced into saying what he did yesterday by some very powerful persons and threats. I do not believe that his words were inadvertent or that they were uttered voluntarily by him as any statement of his own beliefs.

Apples and Oranges

Cruz is a professional speaker. He is a debate champion. He is an excellent scholar and wordsmith. He can memorize thousands of words and recite them easily in speeches.

He didn't "mess" up when he said that.

This. I don't believe for one nanosecond that he said "violent terrorist attack" by mistake. How do you even mistakenly do that?

Cruz talks a slick game and is great at dunking on apparatchiks in committee hearings, but sadly seems to be just like all the rest.

I agree. This is exactly what the left wants: conservatives tearing down their own at the least little hint of a mistake.
And F16 is standing at the ready to do exactly that for a more "conservative" candidate…..

This **** means nothing. Their conservative scores mean nothing. What the **** do these Senators do in Washington? Who cares how these jackasses vote when the country is falling under tyranny by the left? I literally could not care less about any of this *****

What ****ing matters right now is Covid lockdowns, the vaccine mandate, and the border. Literally nothing else matters. Why? Because WE WON'T HAVE A DAMN COUNTRU WORTH SAVING IF WE DON'T STOP THESE THINGS NOW!

Cruz is part of the damn problem. He's thrown his own constituents under the bus and decided to be a swamp rat for no damn reason. He should be screaming at the top of his lungs daily against the mandate and for border control, but he doesn't. Why?

I read your post as "thank you sir may I have another."

Not enough. When I said daily, I mean it should be the only things he ever talks about and he should be hammering these points on every single media source he can find.

When the country is falling under tyranny, just mentioning them once or putting forth a bill is not enough. He should be ripping the administration constantly, but he doesn't do this. It should be a daily thing. I'm tired of pansy politicians who just let us get kicked in the balls while they put forth useless bills that do nothing or think voting matters in the Senate.

If a politician is not willing to fight so hard he could potentially get arrested then he's useless at this point in time.

He killed the only chance he ever had at a national office short of riding DeSantis' coat tails to the Naval Observatory.

So the options here are:

A- he said it on purpose and now is trying to walk it back because everyone is pissed.

B- he chose his words so poorly they came out 180 degrees from the truth. This is a guy who was solicitor general for the state of Texas.

C- he didn't mean what he said because he was on autopilot or whatever. Which means he just says what people want to hear and doesn't think about what he's saying.

All of these are a horrible horrible look and amount to a little more than a "slip up." I mean it's not like this is some trivial matter that he has to speak about to a rotary club.

Do you want to know why the right never wins anything? Why all of our "rising stars" turn out to be wet farts? Why we always wind up disappointed after "taking back muh senate?"

It's because no one is gatekeeping from the right. These people are not a modern Cincinnatus coming to save the Republic out of love for her. These are careerists who network and connive to reach the halls of power. If they aren't ruthlessly held in check, nothing will ever change. The fallout for Cruz from this should be cataclysmic. Why? Because if you give them a pass they'll feign gratitude and humility and then stab you in the back again. And why not? You forgave them once, you'll do it again. What other option do you have?

Enough.

Wow look at all you latecomers. Cruz has been slimey since the beginning. Sure he's pretty damn conservative, and was a relative outsider when he muscled out the LtGov in the senate race, but he's spent a lifetime grooming himself to be a career politico. He's polished to a fault. He's apologizing now cuz he know he has to follow where the wind is blowing. Which is a very very swampy thing to do.

Yep. He is intelligent and an articulate speaker. Excellent debater. His ability to choose words wisely, especially in a hearing like this, is what he's best at. I hate to say it but I think there's zero chance he "accidentally" said what he did. Maybe he was coerced but it wasn't a slip. Those suggesting the criticism here isn't warranted are naive and in the wrong, IMHO.

And going on Tucker was a bad move. His cringeworthy responses didn't help his credibility

I disagree with Tucker. The BLM/antifa idiots who went after cops were absolutely terrorists. That was violence in pursuit of political aims. They were not merely assaulting cops while trying to evade arrest. And if Cruz called those guys terrorists, which he would be in the right to do, then it would be consistent to call the few people who broke windows and beat the crap out of cops terrorists as well.

What Cruz should have done at the time is made it clear that he was NOT including the people who were walking around and taking a self guided tour at the behest of the police who escorted them into the building.

What? This church has been in session since Trump came down the escalator. The past 5 years people who are reliable conservatives that are pro-life, pro strong borders, pro free market, school choice, etc., etc., have been deemed heretics if they dared to disagree with Trump. They could have even voted for him, but that wasn't good enough. There is a church of MAGA and Cruz is the latest heretic.

Cruz is very smart, he did not say "domestic terrorists" by mistake. I don't believe anyone put him up to it either. He is simply out of touch with the working middle class, and he has drank way too much of his own kool-aid and has become something of a complacent swamp creature, unfortunately.

As someone who has followed him for years, I think my biggest criticism of his leadership style is that he regards conservatism as more of a journey (for himself) to live by, rather than a destination (for the country) to arrive at. Which is why over the last year I've grown disappointed in him -- the left has pushed the country off the cliff and yet all he does is tweet about how hypocritical/reckless it all has been. Nevermind the fact that people have died in mass as a result of these lockdowns and lost their jobs over the mandates (or worse sold out and gotten the shot after being coerced). These problems were not real to him or anyone in Washington. They are too coddled, rich, and out of touch to see it all. Which is infuriating.

For me, it's about results. For example, don't tell me you're against mandates, but then show your papers to travel to Cancun, or wherever. That's pathetic and evil, to be quite honest. Do better.

In the case of January 6th, it was not a terrorist attack - it was federal agencies provoking and framing American citizens as insurectionists. And For Cruz to go along with this label, is to categorically regard all angered citizens as a threat and a problem to the government -- rather than constituents who they work for.

If there was ever such a thing as a "danger to democracy", then it would be a government that doesn't answer to the people who elected them. Which is exactly what this was - politicians disregarding calls for accountability and legislation.

I will not vote for Mr. Cruz in the future. He needs to find a different path to make an impact in this country - he is brilliant, but he is simply becoming a name in a list of many do-nothing politicians. It means absolutely nothing.

Maybe he can step away from a political seat for a couple of years and find his way, he needs to get away from the swamp.
