MOSCOW, Feb 21 (Reuters) - Russian ratings agency ACRA estimates that the country's banks imported $5 billion worth of banknotes in foreign currencies in December, up from $2.65 billion a year before, in a pre-emptive step in case of sanctions creating increased demand.

I think the answer is to ensure that Putin never crosses the border. Make it clear that we will not fire a single shot if he stays on his side. We will withdraw if he withdraws. But the decision on whether or not a bunch of his troops die is 100% on him.Rossticus said:aTmAg said:

Just talked to a vet (my electrician) and we agreed that there's no way it doesn't come to this if things go hot. There are too many NATO assets positioned too near this isht. Someone is going to color outside the lines and all hell is going to break loose.

Bad idea. We do not need to get engaged in a shooting war with Russia.
Sanctions, waging insurgency? Sure.
We have limited military assets and need them saved for the PRC.

The Cold War was much worse and dangerous than today
Just look at the strength of the Warsaw Pact allied with the entire Soviet Union versus just having to face Russia today!
I'm a child of the Ronnie Ray Gun era so I don't have a whole lot of Cold War memories prior to the fall of the wall which I did watch on TV. This is not nearly as bad as far as I can tell. I don't think the threat of nuclear is really on the table. For one thing it's very clear that NATO troops are not going in to defend the Ukraine. I don't think, for instance, that Russia would push all the way up to the Polish border. They don't need to and the danger is too high.LMCane said:I was born In 70 so not a boomer but grew up in Cold War and nobkag9824 said:

And we should already be spending the intel resources necessary to make sure we can catch them trying to smuggle a nuke to the US.
But the entire reason we are in this situation with Iran is because of liberal idiocy.
