Conservative students at the University of Virginia say they are facing a wave of blowback from other students over an upcoming event meant to defend the legacy of founding father Thomas Jefferson.

The school's chapter of the Young America's Foundation said on Twitter over the weekend that fellow students have launched a letter-writing campaign against an event this Thursday called, "In Defense of Mr. Jefferson," which is set to feature National Review Editor Rich Lowry and Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas.

Jefferson's tombstone reads:

"Here Was Buried Thomas Jefferson, Author of the Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and the Father of the University of Virginia."
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

And people think there will never be a hot civil war? Lol.

This isn't debates over how much to fund department of defense, etc, like in the old days when Dems were sane.

This is fundamental destruction of the country.

He belongs in history for the part he played in it. If there are moral deficiencies, those can be part of the record too. However, the fact that we even have the time or capability to re-judge every historical character proves the level of accomplishment from men like Jefferson.

I'd like to think flawed men and hypocrites are still capable of good things. Otherwise, we are all in deep *****

It's worse to bury and hide them than to point them out, because you cannot hide from the reality that negative things exist. They will affect you even if you pretend they don't exist.

If ever there was a political party that should be confined to the flames of hell, it is the democrat party and all the racists that have supported it through the decades.

And that includes the latest set of clowns, who are intellectually the weakest.

Don't let facts get in the way of his feelings.

Jefferson is wrong that governments become corrupt when people are, "piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe." They simply become necessarily more complex because there are more interactions and there must be more considerations to balance the liberty and rights of individuals. Urbanization necessarily requires the curbing of individual liberty as, "unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others," because, "the limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others," come closer and closer to us as we live closer and closer to others.

It seems Jefferson would rather avoid the complexity of an urban and industrializing society than confront it because it's the easy way out.

Mostly all Democrats.
Anyone who votes democrat after their appalling history of racism and oppression, should be confined to a mental institution

We should start with racist Joe Biden and VP Kamala who built her career on putting often innocent black men in prison.

Anyone who votes for them is a racist POS that deserves to be flogged.

There is no direct evidence he raped any of his slaves.

DNA evidence shows that some people may be descended from a relative or himself.

There were reports that his brother spent alot of time in slaves quarters partying, so it may have been his brother.

But cool...you do you.

Now tell us how MLK needs to be taken down cause he raped women and watched his friends and colleagues rape drunk girls.

Fair is fair.

Overly large cities throughout history have devolved into cesspools. He wasn't looking for the easy way out. He was simply a student of history, unlike most modern democrats.

The mousetopia experiments from the 60's were interesting with regard to population density and social interactions.

Quote:

At the peak population, most mice spent every living second in the company of hundreds of other mice. They gathered in the main squares, waiting to be fed and occasionally attacking each other. Few females carried pregnancies to term, and the ones that did seemed to simply forget about their babies. They'd move half their litter away from danger and forget the rest. Sometimes they'd drop and abandon a baby while they were carrying it.
The few secluded spaces housed a population Calhoun called, "the beautiful ones." Generally guarded by one male, the femalesand few malesinside the space didn't breed or fight or do anything but eat and groom and sleep. When the population started declining the beautiful ones were spared from violence and death, but had completely lost touch with social behaviors, including having sex or caring for their young.
