Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media. Hope that happens to me someday. He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!

Contemplating another run and starting to perform well against Biden in hypothetical polls, Trump does what he always does: shoots himself in the dick. Does something to win favor with a group that already loves him (his hardcore supporters) at the cost of one that doesn't (moderates, independents). Not very smart strategy.

I'm a Trump supporter - voted for him twice - but this comment from him was ridiculous. Did he think we all needed his opinion of Powell that badly ?

His mouth is why he's not the President right now, and if he continues opening his mouth when there's no need to, his 2024 campaign will fail for the same reason, and we'll be stuck with another crappy Dem in the White House.

Clearly learned his lesson from Arizona - regardless how you feel about McCain, trashing his memory lost him votes. No point in doing this - just keep your mouth shut.

Regardless of whether you agree with this opinion or not, this is the type of pointless statement that resulted in Biden getting elected.

Trump's worst enemy is himself.

You would think that he has had time to reflect on why so many people voted against him but obviously self reflection is not part of his character.

DeSantis wins by double digits in 2024. Trump loses again.

Typical Trump to open his mouth and make an unnecessary statement that doesn't help him.

What's even more lost on Trump is we will all have are final day. The offensive and derogatory remarks he makes about those who have just passed will be the same to him or any member of his family. Don't know why any reasonable person would welcome that type of energy or even leave their family to bear the pain when that time comes.

You do realize Trump had the option of not saying anything at all, right?

Just because what passes for a thought hoves its way through his brain does not mean he has to express it.

Now bring on the irrelevant whataboutisms that dems say mean things about republicans.

Yep. Why on earth does he have to comment on stuff like this? Adds absolutely no benefit to anything and is just one more public example of being a dick.

His level of self control is childlike. That is the part of his personality that I dislike the most. Zero discipline.

Thank you for proving my point.

Powell was a crap republican. Those trying to paint him any different are LYING to set an agenda.

Just because a dead man is dead does not mean we should rewrite history to be kind to his legacy. That does noone any good.

When someone passes away, idiots ridiculously believe that is the time to rewrite their life.

This is false.

After death a life should be examined for what it was- the good and the bad. That is how we learn from their life and improve our own.

Rewriting history serves no purpose except to make you feel better because you can fool yourself into thinking your forgiveness of the errors of their humanity is virtuous.

That bull**** is why we are where we are as a society and regressing rapidly

Powell hated Trump and said terrible things about him for years. His very last interview he spent deriding Trump for January 6 and said he was trying to overthrow the government. Trump was also a consistent opponent of the Iraq War and Powell and was proven to be right which pissed off Powell more than anything.

Would it be nice if Trump pretended that they didn't hate each other? I guess so but that isn't the world we live in anymore. No doubt the day Trump dies the Left will spend weeks jumping up on top of his grave and insulting him. It's not like Trump got any credit for being nice to McCain's legacy when he died either.

Our politics is a bloodsport now and the only question is whether you are playing to win.

If that quote attributed to Trump is real, it is a bit disappointing. No need to speak ill of the deceased days after he died.

For all the good and bad about Powell's political career, he served his country honorably in combat, and deserves to be honored for that.

If in the coming weeks people want to debate Powell's political activities, that is fair. But give the family peace and praise for the good he did for God and Country.

There once was a time when I believed you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but those are times when congeniality and civility took precedence over ambitions and hostile agendas. Those days are over.

Now to be publicly respectful of the dead of one of such stature as Powell only furthers the harmful misconception that appearance means more than truth. We are fighting an internal enemy who thrives on good people being contrite and respectful in order to hide the truth, fool the ignorant, and frustrate those that oppose them.

It is not pointless to castigate your enemy, even in death, because the message is that truth is more powerful than appearances. By publicly stating the truth gives courage to those to abandon the fear of criticism and themselves speak the truth.
