Just wanted to say, without Premium board moderation, that the Texas-Austin Longhorns are screwed long term because of the #woke policies they support around their campus and city.

30 years ago, Austin was a great place to hang out for a day/evening. Hell, it was pretty ok even 10 years ago. Now I don't go into that town unless I just have to.

The Premium Board Horn Tears is being heavily moderated to remove posts that mention Austin politics, even as it relates to Texas-Austin and their athletic problems.

This seemed like the place to discuss those political issues.

I haven't been there in about 4 years, has it really got to be as bad as people say? Like others have said, 10-15 years ago I would go down there multiple times a year and it definitely had a little bit of homeless population but still a fun downtown scene.

It absolutely was. Since the recent vote that required the camping ordinance to be enforced the homeless situation has improved a to. As of this week I didn't see any along the trail downtown. First time in 2 years.

So the Premium posters are paying for extra moderation? That's funny!

I'm from Austin. I haven't been there in about 6 years. All of my family and friends have moved out. Most have gone south of the city to Buda or Kyle. The last time I was in Austin I didn't recognize it. It doesn't even feel like home anymore.

It was always liberal city. Even in the 70s and 80s. But it's gone over the edge in the last 20 years. They really want to be Portland.

I don't know how I feel about this thread. But Austin does suck and is a direct result of Woke lib policies. So there's that.

Ditto - moved to Austin in 1970. Raised there and family stayed in the area. Thank goodness they are not in Austin proper anymore. I've probably been into Austin twice the past 6-8 years.

I was there in December of 2019 and it was absolutely shocking. That was the first time I had been down there in about 5 years previous to that. I drove straight from airport into downtown and it felt like you were entering a third world city.

I have 3 close friends that all lived in Austin. All were massive Austin homers (annoyingly so) and all have moved out in past two years because it's such a cesspool and now talk about how much they hate the city. My how the turn tables.

I was in Austin, downtown, 2 weeks ago. They had a truck and a crane picking up and trashing homeless encampments along the trail.

Best thing to happen to Austin in the last 20 years is the toll road, I'll gladly continue to pay to never see that city again.

Surprised to hear they are actually cleaning it up now. I bet the Texas athletic department finally made some calls to their moron Mayor and explained to him how their recruiting is starting to take a hit over it. While they've always put Austin as the #1 reason recruits come to Texas (even over the school) very recently their message board mods have started leaking information that the homeless issue has become a problem on the recruiting trail.

They've never mentioned it before until a couple of weeks ago.

It's crazy now. We went for a staycation a few summers ago and my Longhorn wife kept commenting on how unrecognizable it was. She graduated in 2010, so it's not like shes left in the 80's. 6th Street was beyond ghetto. Felt bad for the businesses as the shady ass crowds out in the street prob kept a ton of people away. West 6th was even garbage, and that was a cool little spot just a few years ago.

But one thing she kept commenting on was how effeminate and weird all the men were in that town. Everywhere we went, soyboys everywhere in sight.

I hate how woke we have become, but Austin is a freakshow now. It used to be weird in a cool way, now it's not even weird it's just disgustingly liberal and hyper-conforming.

It's like anything else. It was cool to think Austin was the best ever for many even if it was overblown.

Those days are dead though. It's 1M people now complete with big city problems and in some cases worse than its big city peers - traffic and homelessness specifically. It's also overwhelming Democrat so it will only ever get worse.

It has largely retained its cool label simply from halo effect but that will ultimately die.

It totally is. However outside of Houston, there are more Ags here than in any other part of the State of Texas.

We don't live in Austin proper..thank God

People like to bad mouth Austin and say it is just like San Francisco. Which is absolutely not true.
If you really compare the two cities it is only like 85% -90% like S.F.
Can't wait till we get an app for avoiding turds in street /on the side walks /parks. Then I will know we have hit the big time elite status of Big City Liberal **** Holes. You can do it Austin !!! Si se whatever.

SF County voted 85% for Biden and Travis County voted 71% for Biden so SF is still dumber than Austin by 14 points. Austin gaining ground though.

"WrOnG FoRuM!!!!!!"

GOH with that nonsense.
For one, the topic isn't even appropriately titled. The thread has nothing to do with "muh Longhorns," other than the fact that The University is in Austin. The University doesn't drive Austin social politics, certainly no more than transplants from California, Washington, and Oregon do.
Tells you all you need to know about this poster.
I went to The University. And I am likely more conservative than any poster on this board, as are many of my friends. And then?

**And I would likely never defend Austin for anything. Their politicians are morons, just like those of pretty much any major city in America.

Why is a ****ty thread that can't stay on Premium with its insufferable condescending posters appropriate for this board?
"The University". Is this a new thing for y'all?

I thought Ohio State were the only ones that did that.

Opposite. It's REALLY old. Some even say it's where tu originated.

We were TAMC (a college) so they just called themselves The University because they're pretentious *****s.
